In one of the weirder cases of Trump half-assing things, there is now a nationwide penny shortage, probably because they aren’t being made any more.
But no provisions were made to phase out their usage, so now stores can’t make change that they’re still legally obligated to.

New Windows 11 feature: displays are put to sleep to conserve power. This crashes the display driver, which causes the displays to be powered up again once the driver restarts, resetting the “turn off displays after n minutes” timer, after which the displays are turned off, which crashes the driver…
Never realized FoxTrot and I shared a birthday, and I’ve been reading since… well, whenever in 90s that the Boston Globe picked it up.
It’s kind of immersion breaking to watch something that was clearly based on an older work, where a character has been upgraded to a smart phone and sees some important event, and then CALLS someone and has to keep quiet to avoid being heard by the villain. Just send a text! They’re silent!
Your daily challenges are:
• Collect something of which there are none left because you gathered them all
• Find an NPC who will let you give them something and give it to them
• Don’t throw your controller through the TV
Can we just stop with this crap in games? Please?
Saw an article complaining about how FFXIV keeps on releasing new content where the only rewards are cosmetics so there’s little reason to do it, but the major issue it really has is all new content (except PVP) is MSQ-locked. Wanna do something new with new players? Hope you like PVP!
I’ve watched someone miss their exit in a traffic circle, stop, and start backing up (into traffic) so they could make the turn.
It’s a CIRCLE. Keep going. You’ll get another chance. (This was also a fairly small circle, it probably took them longer to do their five point turn than just loop.)
Screenshot of a push notification from the Patterned game with the title of a bug emoji and then “bugs squashed” and the text: “We're back up and running with your favorite collections - plus a fresh Pattern of the Day waiting for you.”
You know, I’m not sure April 1st is the best day to send out a push notification announcing that it’s now possible to select levels without the game crashing, but…
It’s a lot harder to be excited about Artemis when you realize it’s just a bunch of old Space Shuttle parts being used up and that once they run out they can’t make any more.
The official Discord has games, like showing how you’re better at rolling a D20 than Dave is!
There’s something funny about Discord popping up a “we’re back with updates!” banner on the same banner that broke a whole bunch of random icons and makes it so that watching video entirely breaks the app.
Turns out there is a way to make time-limited daily puzzles even more annoying: crashing every time you attempt to start one. Guess that’s one “daily streak” I won’t be continuing.
Part of this is probably the gamer in me who ends up treating traffic lights almost like they’re QTEs (trying to make sure I can react to the change ASAP) but I really don’t think it’s too much to ask for you to LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE when stopped at a light.
It’s kind of depressing seeing pictures of protests in other countries, knowing there will never be any protests in the US. No one cares any more.
It’s impressive how easily some people can go from:
No foreign wars
No blood for oil
To:
No foreign wars?
No! Blood for oil!
“We have our own TypeScript types!”
Great!
“They’re both wrong and missing half the API!”
…not so great!
“Your Windows PC needs to reboot to install drivers!”
Fine.
(Immediately after logging back in) “Your Windows PC needs to reboot to install drivers!”
We JUST DID THIS! Fine, whatever.
“Welcome to Windows! Please subscribe to OneDrive and download our app!”
ARREGGGHHH
Honda has now officially cancelled all plans to bring any EV to the US, ever, despite the success of the Prologue which they also already cancelled future production of.
I wonder if Pokopia’s success will convince Square Enix that killing the Dragon Quest Builders series may not have been the best idea. (The team behind Pokopia made DQB2 and there are a lot of similarities.)
Also worth mentioning in no way was that long enough to have triggered the screensaver so apparently Windows 11 ignores that setting too.
Got up from an MMO to go to the bathroom. Apparently Windows 11 now IGNORES requests to keep the displays on from games, turned them off, and crashed the display drivers and of course the game in the process. Now I have to wait a good half hour for my “bad behavior” penalty to wear off.
I guess GDQ knows everyone will be too busy with Pokopia when it releases on Thursday to watch for a few days.
It kind of amazes me how dedicated the FFXIV team is to repeating things that didn’t work because they’re out of ideas. When you have to add time-limited rewards to get people to touch “variant dungeons,” maybe don’t add *new* “variant dungeons” the player base clearly isn’t interested in.
Oh look, we’re at the “we’re all very upset you’re upset, we’re going to delay and hope you don’t realize nothing is changing” phase of Discord’s age verification rollout.
New fun Windows 11 feature:
dwm.exe seems to get a new PID and have its CPU time reset to 0 every time the displays turn back on after being put to sleep.
I don’t even really find Highguard’s implosion to be that amusing. It’s a part of a continuing toxic trend: companies launching things, expecting them to immediately dominate the market, and then killing them entirely when they aren’t instant successes.
As much fun as it is to mock the overly commercial Game Awards, I don’t think you can blame Geoff Keighley for Highguard falling apart. They apparently intended to shadow drop the game and then I guess expected to become the most played game in the world overnight?
AI Overview of a Microsoft-provided Windows 11 extension for viewing raw image files: Users appreciate the ease of previewing images with this extension
Actual reviews: DO NOT INSTALL! This doesn’t just preview images, it actively deletes metadata in them!
Well, glad I didn’t use that then.
I kind of can’t wait to see how Discord backpedals on the “required facial scan” thing because I can almost bet it will be “we’re deeply sorry everyone noticed what we’re doing, we’ll try again later with a slower rollout to prevent people from realizing it’s happening until it’s too late.”
Well, congrats, Discord, your decision to require face scans from all users has gotten your app trending on multiple social media platforms.
Mostly from people announcing they’re canceling Discord Nitro.
