This led me to google what the heck lawsuit he was talking about and... sigh.

We’ve been discussing disaster memorials in my disaster recovery class. We discussed Sandy Hook a lot. The ways that conspiracy theorists, aided by Jones, put them through so much extra pain is so profoundly vile. I don’t know that justice for something like that is possible but this helps.
A group of Ecuadorian fishermen survived a US drone strike, were detained at gunpoint, phones wiped, ship blown up, disappeared to El Salvador, then released without charge. “They knew we were fishermen. Even the Salvadorian authorities said things had been handled very badly.”

Starting a mid-decade redistricting war only to end up with -1 seats is the same fine strategic genius and subtle grasp of game theory that brough us the Strait of Hormuz.
I am very charmed by him.
My student’s screenshotting emergency management drama from LinkedIn to show me because they know I deleted my account on there… 🥹🥹🥹
I’ve taught them so well.
As we gear up for what may be an intense fire year, here's a thread of advice for PIOs and other crisis communicators out there, including ICs and agency administrators.
Be true to yourself. The easiest way to lose credibility is to pretend to be someone else. People will know it immediately. 1/
Ahh, this must be why!
Why is everyone talking about East of Eden lately? I'm mostly seeing it on TikTok and Instagram. Are you all seeing this? Did I mess my algorithm up? Everyone seems to be reading it right now?

ICYMI: the April Disasterology Newsletter has an unprecedented four memes.

#MustRead #EM news, analysis, & much-needed snark from Dr @samlmontano.bsky.social.
Reading Dr. Sam’s newsletter is the only time I feel remotely reassured that I’m not going crazy when I read emergency management-related news.
The correct answer to that based on current leadership is easily Region 9!
Waking up to discover that evidence has been released proving something we all knew. The Supreme Court's efforts to stop the Obama clean power plant rules were rooted in explicit, corrupt efforts to protect the fossil fuel industry.
The April Disasterology Newsletter proves the value of saving receipts.

Perhaps it is worth adding here that the number two (I think) ranking person at FEMA is Gregg Phillips -- you may know him as the guy who thinks he knows how to teleport.
So, things are very bad.

I keep saying "no one is at home" and this is what I mean. I do not know what is happening in practice here but judging just from the website, this place is a ghost town.
When FEMA fails big it will largely be because the Trump admin has hollowed out the agency.

FEMA Region map
The Resilience Office has no deputy admin or associate admin. No deputy admin at the US Fire Administration.
There is no deputy associate admin for Mission Support. Region 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10 do not have regional administrators. Region 6 does not have either an administrator or a deputy.
Karen Evans is serving as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of Admin & also as her own Chief of Staff.
There is no associate admin of the National Continuity Program (yikes). There is neither an associate admin or deputy associate admin for the Office of Policy and Program Analysis.
It continues to be shocking how few of the top leadership positions at FEMA are filled right now.
According to their website (which says it was last updated yesterday, despite the bizarre shutdown situation) FEMA does not have an administrator, deputy administrator or a deputy chief of staff.
The head of the FBI isn't supposed to be getting blackout drunk. He's supposed to be cross-dressing
it is wild to me to have a colleague say that using genAI to do a "first analysis" of a bunch of papers to get summaries and then engage with those summaries is a legitimate way to do any sort of scholarship like fucking hell how are you calling yourself a scholar
This is genuinely the first media strategy I’ve seen in years that I think might save us.
HELLO???
Trump is nominating the guy they fired from FEMA a few months ago to lead FEMA.

At the risk of sharing a Hagerty ad… this is a useful breakdown of the BRIC changes. This is going to be an equity bloodbath, I fear.
