I love this so much.

Barack Obama sat down with Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a Bronx child care center, reading “Alone and Together,” a book about connection, community, and belonging to preschoolers.

Sidebar: Not sure these little-ones knew who Obama was 😂

I wish more educators and fewer lawyers would run for public office, in part b/c the best ones are naturals at explaining the whys of things.

We could use more people in public life who cultivate understanding and bring people along together instead of "voters are too dumb to appreciate language"

Police shoot, kill man with knife in Lexington following medical call - The Boston Globe Police responded to a home on Mason Street after receiving a call from family members that a man had injured himself with a knife, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

“Parents call 911 for help with mentally ill son, so cops come & kill him” is an EXTREMELY common story

But our elected officials & media live in daily terror of being branded anti-cop, so we’re not allowed to talk about it

Reporter: If you don’t have a deal by Wednesday, will you extend the ceasefire or restart attacks?

Trump: Maybe I won’t extend it… and we’ll have to start dropping bombs again.

Racial justice, civil rights and the threats the Trump administration presents to the marginalized in America (and beyond) were afterthoughts to a lot of people and it's difficult to assume they're capable of careful analysis on that now.

& they _continue_ to argue that Harris supporters were fine w/ genocide, while the president they helped elect has all-too-predictably become Netanyahu's handmaid, helping Israel extend their genocidal crimes beyond their borders. These people are either braindead or racist or both. Gotta be both.

A polaroid of Dolly Parton with platinum hair and pastel eye shadow and shell earrings and it all glows.

via CAVIAR20

By 1985 Dolly Parton was one of the most famous stars in America. Over the previous ten years Parton had successfully transitioned from Country signer to super celebrity; her albums sold over a million copies and won Grammys. Between 1981 and 1985, she had twelveTop-10 hits. Her films (and their theme-songs) such as 9-to-5 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, were massive commercial hits.

It is no secret that Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was fascinated by fame, especially when possessed by beautiful and intriguing women. Under what circumstances Dolly Parton entered Warhol's world is a story arguably too large for this platform, but in 1985 the two connected. Warhol, in his typical portrait-making approach, took a number of Polaroids of Dolly...and these images would become a small number of 42" by 42" silkscreen paintings realized the same year.

It is worth mentioning that by the mid-eighties Warhol had completed a lot of celebrity portraits. His Dolly paintings are unquestionably an accomplishment within the genre. Instead of using discordant colors, Warhol chose a palette that was aligned with Dolly's aesthetic; pastel, gentle and a bit of ostentatious glamour.

(The last photo that shows the Dolly portraits in situ is from the exhibition Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei at the National Gallery of Australia, Melbourne that took place in the winter of 2015 through the spring 2016)

This Polaroid, which comes directly from the Estate of Andy Warhol, is one of the photographs from that magical session.

Far too many fundamentally misunderstand what voting is. It's not a form of personal moral expression; it's a large scale harm v benefit equation, & that takes certain sympathetic & critical thinking skills, of which there's a woeful dearth in this country.

Dumb & mean. That's what we are, mostly.
