Spent some time this morning reading about the Justice Department's decision to delay the Title II Accessibility rule for one year. You can find it here:

"Do you realize how much water and power it’d take to replicate the average writer’s narcissism, self-loathing and despair? It’d drain the Indian Ocean. You could light up Times Square for a year. We can’t afford it."
Trump is running an interesting experiment in how many self-identified Christian Americans have actual religious commitments and how many are just into it because it provides a means for the socially defensible expression of bigotry bsky.app/profile/bria...

Realizing that some of my inexplicable sadness about the Artemis II stuff is that it feels like a trans-dimensional communication from an America that took a different path and chose joy instead of fear and hate.
I love that almost 700,000 people are watching this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-j1...
Key Takeaways. AI is a useful assistant that can help you with research, writing, productivity, and more. However, AI should adhere to all existing policies and practices regarding data security, ethical technology use, academic and research integrity, and avoiding bias. When Using AI: Follow all recommendations and policies regarding ethical and secure technology use. Protect university information and all sensitive data. Maintain oversight by reveiwing AI outputs and being mindful about when and how AI use is disclosed. Report issues to your campus IT help desk. Use AI thoughtfully, balancing benefits with responsible resource use.
Well... my university system might have signed a $2mil deal for ChatGPT access with zero faculty input, but at least there's "training" required to access it that takes 30 seconds to click through.

I don’t think we talk enough about how the foundational, most aspirational premise of the AI industry is “what if there was a human-level intelligence that didn’t have human rights.” Like. Exploitation is literally the whole point! Of COURSE they hold human life, intelligence and labour in contempt!
We've all been trained by our worlds!!
We continue to have the same taste in everything 😍

It seems to me that the foundational 'wrong turn' in education was the increasing rhetoric from universities themselves and their supporters that the primary value of a university education was increased earning power.
That leads pretty directly to this place we're in now.
The snow is finally (FINALLY!) starting to melt and I want to go outside and hug the ground

With sorrow, we announce the passing of FOBAZI M. ETTARH 1989 - 2026. Fobazi changed so many lives with her friendship, love, and brilliance. She was so loved, and leaves behind a powerful legacy. We thank Fobazi's community for their support over the last several months of her illness. A private burial will be held for family. We will be in touch with further information about a future Celebration of Life event, as well as ways to support Fobazi's family and legacy.
Not a great look that so many university libraries are promoting AI. Libraries have always been a space for valuing authors' work and showing how to locate and properly cite sources--not encouraging tech that steals from authors and produces slop.

I think this is a really important point. When folks say "no AI" they often don’t mean "I can conceive of no possible use for AI"—they mean "the use cases I’ve been shown do not begin to justify the harms"—that’s not something you respond to by offering another narrow use case

From my own niche: institutions of higher education should stop chasing trends, work internally to assert a set of values, and then build curriculum around those values.
