If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.
Dostoevsky has just earnestly told me for the fourth time that he needs to relate one final piece of information to me before he begins the novel and I’m beginning to get suspicious 🤔
Watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Independent media is more important than ever.
Great show!
Teaching STEM without teaching the Humanities is how you get Spider-Man villians. Teaching Theater without teaching the Humanities is how you get Batman villians.
This made me laugh. And then I sat and thought about it. This is correct.
Now that pride month is over every queer person should be allowed to go hibernate until next June

✅ Twitter
❌ Microsoft (Windows, but no Office/cloud)
✅ Apple
❌ Amazon (trying, but there's no real replacement. Walmart+? Same sort of issues, unfortunately)
❌ Google (Android, Auto, Docs/Slides, Assistant to control Home/lights, Nest -- still very entrenched, but I'm slowly picking away!)
I'm slowly #degoogling my life. I use MEGA for Drive, Ente for Photos, Fastmail for mail, and Firefox. I'm an Android user, though, so there are some things I can't easily get rid of (Android Auto, Google slides (for work), Messages, etc.), but I'm doing as much as I can to break away from #Google.
I love this one!
It took me 5 years to break out of the adjunct hole. While I was fortunate enough to have a supportive Chair, the precarity of my position was always stressful. When a full-time position opened, my years in the department did benefit me in the hiring process. I recognize that's not the norm, though.
I can’t believe the Supreme Court said the president was above the law and now the president is acting like he’s above the law.
Just finished watching #BigBoys. It's a great, short binge. Poignant. Important. Queer as f*ck. Feeling a lot of emotions with that finale. Definitely recommend watching it!
My college announced the 'sunsetting' of our Diversity, Equity, and Belonging department and initiatives today.
Unsurprising, but disappointing.
I stand with the trans community. Pass it along.
FX renewing "English Teacher" — a show I *really* liked — sends a very clear message regarding whose experiences/stories/accusations we find significant and whose experiences/stories/accusations we do not.
And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why FX feels like sending that message.
Now It’s Official: #EnglishTeacher Is Renewed for Season 2 at FX
I can't believe I missed his birthday!
I wonder how much Trump will like the new cover of Time.
The bigger picture: A new era of on-campus immigration enforcement is no longer an abstraction. But with about 400,000 undocumented students enrolled in U.S. colleges, much remains unclear. A single arrest reported in a parking lot is not the same thing as frequent sweeps through the quad, no matter how much the loudest voices might want to equate the two.
From the Chronice of Higher Ed's daily newsletter email. The first ICE arrest on a college campus happened at Spokane Community College yesterday. The Chronicle, however, is here to tell us that in "the bigger picture," it's no big deal, even if "the loudest voices" say it is.
You need to study history to learn from it.

I'm consolidating my social media and officially leaving Twitter and Meta, for obvious reasons. What's your #Instagram alternative? I created a #Pixelfed account, but I don't see any of my followers there. Where is everyone?
