Notice a pattern? The world’s most powerful are repeatedly undermining international law and silencing people who oppose them. Everyone deserves a world where leaders put human rights first – every time.
We all deserve better. A world where human rights come first, not last. #HumanityMustWin

People in Iran have lived under digital darkness for 1000 hours. Access to the internet is a basic human right and indispensable in times of conflict. Authorities must immediately restore internet access.
However, it was noted with concern that since assuming the chairmanship in 2017, Zimbabwe has not convened such platforms to advance coordinated continental action to protect and assist internally displaced persons.
Amnesty International emphasised Zimbabwe’s responsibility, as Chair of the Bureau of the African Conference of the Parties under the Kampala Convention, to convene African states to address climate-induced internal displacement.
The engagement highlighted the growing impact of climate change, which is driving more frequent & severe droughts, floods, & cyclones, leading to increased internal displacement.
On 9 April 2026, we engaged with Zimbabwe’s Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Climate, Environment & Wildlife to discuss the country’s continental leadership role in operationalising the African Union Convention on the Protection & Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons (Kampala Convention).

“The candle burns not for us, but for all those whom we failed to rescue from prison, who were shot on the way to prison, who were tortured, who were kidnapped, who ‘disappeared’. That’s what the candle is for.”

Freedom of expression is a human right. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media.
Amnesty International strongly condemns the violent attacks witnessed during the public hearings held at City Sports Centre in Harare.
Zimbabwe: Authorities must guarantee free expression and safety during and after public hearings.

Our differences aren’t the problem.
The divide comes from refusing to recognise, accept, and celebrate them - as Audre Lorde warned.
Justice means dismantling the discrimination that targets those differences.
Another world is possible when no one is asked to shrink, hide, or disappear.
