Great article from @emilypont.bsky.social: a deep-dive into the Midwest's new housing policy. Read it for (1) very unlikely allies (2) exciting new progress (3) policies from every side of the political aisle.

High costs are everywhere. This week: @beninboulder.bsky.social, @volts.wtf and I talk about Americans' #1 monthly cost - housing - and how building more homes can drive down climate pollution in a big way.

The Salt River Project elections this week were historic. Let’s keep going in Arizona: donate here to win the next “weird utility race” against TPUSA - the Arizona Corporation Commission in November secure.actblue.com/donate/lower...
2) Here’s the opposite case: Using a MAGA brand to nationalize a Phoenix-based (Dem-leaning) electorate could easily backfire on TPUSA.
Salt River:

The Salt River Project (SRP) election in Arizona may turn out to be one of the most important utility elections in America this year.
And almost nobody outside Arizona is paying attention.

Arizona results are in: OUR CLEAN ENERGY CANDIDATES WON AT THE SALT RIVER PROJECT
Results are coming in for Arizona’s Salt River Project
Second
Update on the Arizona Salt River Project - we still don’t have results. They got over 200% turnout and it’s taking longer than it did in 2024.
Totally agree. And the acreage based system isn’t doing any favors. I’ll post when we know results.
Wisconsin: Strong possibility that both chambers flip in November. A long way until then.
Trifecta control in Wisconsin is absolutely on the table in November.
What will happen? Well, with over 200% higher turnout, we’ll have to wait on this one.
2) Here’s the opposite case: Using a MAGA brand to nationalize a Phoenix-based (Dem-leaning) electorate could easily backfire on TPUSA.
Both campaigns ran anti-data center, “lower costs” campaigns.
1) You can easily see a path to TPUSA victory from the sheer $$$ spent in the race. They dropped serious money on billboards, canvassers and drew national attention in a way that was unprecedented. That could determine the election.
Polls just closed in Arizona for the Salt River Project elections - which got nationalized this year from TPUSA involvement.
Because it’s a land-based voting system (the more acres you own, the more votes you get), it’s hard to tell what will happen. So here’s each winning scenario:
Tonight! Tune in — Salt River Project and Wisconsin’s Supreme Court are the 2 races I’m watching.
Economic instability is at an all-time high — so today we're launching a policy platform to tackle the 4 largest household bills Americans face: electricity, transportation, housing, and home insurance.

Dem @colorado.gov Jared Polis thinks his party should talk more about climate change — and "center" their affordability plan around it.
"I don't think there's any part of America that's been spared the impact of climate change," he told @zcolman.bsky.social on POLITICO Energy.

2️⃣ Insurance market reform. Thanks to climate catastrophes, many states have spent huge $$s bailing out failing insurance markets. We need to pass insurance policy that *insulates* state budgets from climate disaster market meltdowns.
💯 this. States are facing significant budget problems. We need a new set of state policy goals that are grounded in the realities of state budgets. For example:
1️⃣ Creating new state financing vehicles, like Illinois did last year on transportation. Polluter pays and cap-and-invest are others.
The price of gas is OVER $4.00. Here's how state and local lawmakers can step up to cut costs:
🔌 Speed up electric vehicle sales
🚲 Promote safe biking and walking
🚌 Fight for affordable, reliable transportation
🏘️ Legalize multi-family homes and ADUs
