Just started "Lands of Promise and Despair" by Rose Marie Beebe and Robert M. Senkewicz as background for The Redwood Hack and it is incredible and devastating.
The tale of California is not a happy one, I'm afraid.
I'd wholeheartedly recommend the book, it's well written and digestible.

Here's the last draft of the 1pager for the Between 2 Cons broadsheet I was working on. Still needs the ol' editing scalpel but I'm pretty happy with how it _looks_.
The content? Maybe a little less so. Science fantasy is hard!

I love that in the YOOL 2026 connecting Things to Things is very easy! I've got Substack to blog and Discord, Bluesky to blog and Discord going in a night and it seems to be working fine. Would have taken me at least a few days a decade ago.

All WIP and it's very rough but I think I'm gonna try a superhero-style single page for all of these.

Getting super pumped for this year's Nerd Camp! I'm finally gonna get to play Winter's Daughter!
Today I saw California horned lizard, Western fence lizard, rattlesnake, and short-beaked dolphins, plus some vultures, hawks, and ducks. I love this place.
Really fun playtest! Character creation went smoothly, talked about how some uncomfortable themes can be presented.
The combat encounter went about as well as could be hoped, lots of room for improvement but my favorite mechanic (Draw Deep) was decreed "fun!" which made me very happy.

As I get a little further along I'll do a better job summarizing but the elevator pitch is a Dragonbane / Black Sword Hack mashup set in 18th century fantastical California - a hundred years before a typical Weird West setting, more of a focus on native peoples and the various factions of the time.

It's 11x17 which is kinda a wild size - 2 US Letter pages stacked horizontally. It's gonna get printed on a newspaper!
Adventure about 2/3 of the way through layout, featuring a map and a couple of sci-fi line illustrations.

I'm now at 85 / 250 and I don't know if I've got 250 boxes in me man. I think I'm actually getting worse and definitely starting to resent the exercise. Gonna lay it down for a few days and see if I want to come back.
