Leong: Alberta government should butt out of electoral boundaries redraw By discarding an independent commission's electoral map, it's impossible to not question the province's sincerity.

"... By inserting itself in a process in which it should have no part, one can’t help but wonder what ulterior motives lurk behind this subversion of the democratic process."

A facade of direct democracy, nothing underneath.
The UCP is always all hat, no horse.

If the phone in your pocket silently listening to your every utterance is not enough, here is a second listening device. A spy-ghetti side piece to your main surveillance relationship.
Best turn off your phone at dinner, so it won't know you are cozying up to Prego StoryTime!

If only the UPC saw the irony...but then if they were that self-aware, they wouldn't call themselves defenders of democracy and try to gerrymander the next election.

Bothered by bright headlights? Your time to tell Transport Canada is running out | CBC News Transport Canada's survey on headline brightness is open to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and includes questions about travelling at night, driver behaviour and possible changes.

A good reminder to go tell the Canadian government to do something about those bright headlights blinding people who drive at night.

Not once in the 80s, 90s or 00s do I recall a politician urging the public to embrace email, mobile phones, texting, two factor authentication, online banking, air fryers, or to replace all their cassette collection with a CD collection.

So forgive me if I smell a rat.

This story is a microcosm of what the UCP has become under Premier Danielle Smith's regime. @matthewblack.ca deserves the public's thanks for pursuing records that the UCP govt had absolutely no legal reason to withhold. Evidence of Smith's growing authoritarianism is on full display here.

Ripping up maps to rig the election.
Ripping up maps to rig the election. YouTube video by Naheed Nenshi

The UCP said they would respect the findings of the independent Boundaries Commission ... until they didn't like the results.

Now, they're ignoring the experts, who consulted with thousands of Albertans, to push through a map that would steal your vote and rig the election.

Adding:
If CPL pays for, houses, &promotes AI art, then CPL is implicitly endorsing & validating. The medium is the msg. The actual word "endorse" may be absent but visitors will walk away thinking the library values/approves this. The CPL has influence and must use it wisely.

and residencies for other technologies that "exist" which enable or are built upon:

Forging ?
Plagiarising ?
Hacking?

Honestly, I expected more from CPL

I questioned CPL and was told

"This is not about validating or endorsing its use, but about acknowledging that this technology is already here and ensuring people have the opportunity to learn about it, question it, and navigate it together."

So I expect to soon see workshops ...

CPL keeps mailing me invitations to DONATE, after moving ahead with this "artist" in residence 👀

I cannot in good conscience give money to a library that does not understand why AI "art" is problematic. 1/3

Seems to me, if we agree warmer water will likely make handwashing more likely, & gov is mandating hot water be available. Then they are doing a good thing.
You want to them to add an addendum/sign/education about cold water being perfectly good for removing bacteria/viruses, or something?

1 week ago 2 0 0 0

Yup. If one's worksite is cold most of the year, and the water for hand washing is also cold, one will do the desired "vigorous washing" for a shorter time, if at all.

Social media behemoths won't willingly act to meaningfully protect kids. They have no moral compass

Fed Liberals decide: Only adults on SM!

Effect: Forcing all adults to give PII to the immoral behemoths+their crony 3rd parties verification

Sounds like a plan made in "more abuse incoming" hell

AI Assistance Reduces Persistence and Hurts Independent Performance People often optimize for long-term goals in collaboration: A mentor or companion doesn't just answer questions, but also scaffolds learning, tracks progress, and prioritizes the other person's growth...

Apparently, collaborating with AI impairs unassisted performance because it optimises on short-term goals not long-term. The frame is the trick; you can't actually 'collaborate' with a synthetic token machine at all. Myth-making masquerading as critique ⚠️
