Well let’s be honest. Way more stressful mentally to accomplish with kids. Don’t know if I could do that. I DO miss the commute even though I get a good ride in everyday. And finally took the insurance off my car that sits in the driveway

While I may have retired as a principal last June, a combo of education and cycling has brought a unique opportunity for me to be coordinator of Ride to Thrive in London, ON. We spend 4 days in schools to work with grade 5/6 kids to learn to ride safely and confidently. Skills. Rodeo. Road ride.

‘Dead’ on Derek. Just unbelievable how policy contributes to the jeopardy of public safety.

Not unlike Istanbul, also not integrated into the urban landscape. And as a result, def not safe but for a short Bosphorus riverside ride.

Today was an absolutely brilliant day for biking. I may cycle all year round but I LIVE for this sunshine, heat, flowers and good vibes 🤣
The kind of day you could ride forever. And just happened to turn over 31,001km when I got home. 🙌

Far too often. Sorry to hear.

Once again, you’re inspiring another generation of cyclists.
And to have that kind of safe infrastructure to support our kids cycling makes the possibility a reality. 🙌

This is exciting.
I’ve cycled portions of La Route Verte, reminiscent of the network in the Netherlands. Definitely need to return and explore further. Thanks for sharing.

This sentiment has also reached the cycle path in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

I’m really excited to share that I’ll be the new Coordinator for the Ride to Thrive program! And if you know me, then you know combining my passion for education AND cycling is a dream role. If you’re in the London area and have some time to visit schools in May and June, sign up to be an instructor

Great read. Thanks for sharing.
My dad served in WW2 and was part of the liberation of the Netherlands where he met my mom and brought her to Canada. This history is my/our identity.
I can’t stomach the disrespect, the intentional distortion of the truth.

How kind of you to reach out. I absolutely believe in the power of modelling on students’ behaviours and hopefully future choices. I have an interview coming up this week for coordinator of a program for grade5/6 students around riding bikes and road safety. 🤞Combining both passions!
❤️

Kudos to you.
Indeed my next purchase needs to be a cargo bike. Once my car dies 😉

Ha. For sure. I loved it. Fav part of my day, despite some easy-to-fix infra challenges.

Hey! Thanks so much for the shoutout. Such a privilege for me to spend time with Ben. He’s a talented voice and advocate for building up our local cycling community. ❤️

Breathtaking temperatures, windswept fields, blinding sunlight made it feel like the Polar Express.
But it was the GO train to Barrie.
Ride, don’t drive.

Same girl.
Same thing happened to me today. I had groceries in my panniers and was challenged to maintain balance on the slush. So I took to the middle of the road. Driver had more important things to get to.

FWIW, I was JUST thinking about you this week. I used to follow your early morning cycling updates on another platform. I couldn’t remember your name. I don’t even live in Ottawa but knowing someone else was out there at 6am like me on a snowy commute, became my morning routine, religiously. 🙌 TY

Without a garage, my bikes come inside. My ebike is in my dining room, keeping it warm and often keeping it part of the conversation with guests.

Hit a cycling goal today: 30,000km, despite -19 windchill. Bought my Gazelle in 2020 and it changed my life. Celebrating with some boeterkoek from London Bike Café where I bought my bike. 🙌
