The visual description on the museum’s object page for this work reads, in part: “Two women with pale, peachy skin sit next to a table holding a silver tray and royal-blue tea cups and saucers in this colored, vertical etching and aquatint. Faint black lines outline the women, their features, clothing, and objects in the room, and each area is filled in a flat color. The women face each other and take up most of the composition. Both have oval faces, rounded noses, pale pink lips, and their hair is pulled up and back. The woman to our right has brown hair and leans forward as she holds up a blue plate with her right hand, closer to us. The other hand rests on the arm of her tawny-brown chair. Her dress has a petal pink bodice and long skirt with fog-white long sleeves and white fabric covering her chest and tucked into the low, rounded neckline. The other woman wears a blue cap over black hair. The hat has a celery-green feather and is tied in a bow under the chin. She wears a hip-length, charcoal-gray cloak over a pale, sage-green dress. She looks down at the plate and holds what might be a cookie or biscuit with one hand and a cup and a dish-like saucer with the other. ... She sits upright in another brown chair. In the lower right corner of the sheet, the round gray table is barely bigger than the round gray tray it holds. On it are two more cups and saucers and a silver jug, presumably holding milk. … The artist signed and inscribed the sheet under the lower right corner, ‘Imprimée par l'artiste et M. Leroy, Mary Cassatt (25 épreuves).’ A tiny dark blue stamp with a short, wide C overlaid on a capital letter M is inked along the bottom edge of the image.”

Reports of a third attempted arson attack on Jewish targets in North London this week. It's getting really scary and more people need to start taking it seriously.

'I was kicked out of nightclub because of my wheelchair' Maddie Haining, 18, says she was told she was a safety risk and escorted out of a Manchester nightspot.

Another day, another disabled person illegally prevented from living a normal independent life. Disability access and inclusion needs to be enforceable as a duty by local authorities, and victims of discrimination need to be able to easily claim damages.

I’ve depicted George Hersee’s test card F a few times. If that’s not a meditative image that takes the pressure off existing, I don’t know what is (though some people find it terrifying or something)

What has autism got to do with trauma?

Quite a lot, actually.

And not only because of what happens inside the autistic person, but because of what happens around us.

A thread 🧵

Please pause to consider for a moment 193 years of age. Jonathan the tortoise had been on the scene for nearly three decades by the time the US civil war started. The best part of a century when Titanic sank. We’ve lost a real-life time lord

"Autistic burnout does not appear overnight. It is the result of years of surviving on a tiny buffer that was never large enough to cope with the world we are living in. It feels like you have been running on almost nothing for years" and the tank is finally empty. TY @embraceautism.bsky.social.

Agree damaged/incomplete books not really much use. I'm glad I was able to give this book a new home-to explain the library supported film courses, which is why it had a copy of it.

In my first library job, I saw a copy of the screenplay of Brief Encounter that was going to be withdrawn and asked if I could buy. I was able to do so for 50p and still have it now.

So what could ethical research look like, instead?

Here's the proposed researchers’ code of ethics:

1. Co-participation,
2. Respectful language,
3. Autistic differences not always as deficits,
4. No alignment with those promoting ABA, eugenics, and similar harms.

Far from today's reality.

Transgender women athletes banned from female events at Olympics by IOC Transgender women athletes are now excluded from competing in the female category at the Olympics after the IOC agreed to a new eligibility policy on Thursday

This is just… so, so extremely upsetting.

A devastating exclusionary step, and an awful message to trans girls that their dreams have limits. We have to keep standing up against the spread of hate, fear and division that led us here.

If autistic people are saying ‘this is part of who I am’ and the response is to continue to fund ways to reduce and eliminate autism, while making very sure our voices are not heard.

That isn’t neutral.
It's chilling. 😨

Yes, I feel sad about it because I miss reading their updates/having discussions with them. Sometimes though I have spotted people appearing again here so don't give up hope. There was one person who makes great videos about London but thankfully I can watch those on his YouTube account.

Agree, there are some people I used to follow on X who I would like to reconnect with but I don’t think they are on here sadly or if they are I’m not sure of their name to look.

The Jewish community is our community - in London, people of all faiths and none should be able to live peacefully alongside each other.

I was humbled to visit Hatzola ambulance service today.

We stand together against antisemitic hatred - we’ll always reject those who seek to divide us.

We stand together against antisemitism in all its forms whether it appears as violence, vandalism, abuse or rhetoric.

Our thoughts are with the Jewish community following the horrifying arson attack in Golders Green, where emergency vehicles serving the community were deliberately targeted. Such an attack - carried out against those who exist to save lives - is deeply shocking.
