Tweet by “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth: “The War Department is once again restoring freedom to our Joint Force. We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately.” Below there is a video of the announcement for his many, many illiterate fans
Behind Hegseth’s big stupid face, a painting can be seen.
The painting is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. It is by Emanuel Leutze.
An article from the National Parks Service: Smallpox, Inoculation, and the Revolutionary War Boston National Historical Park During the 1700s, smallpox raged through the American colonies and the Continental Army. Smallpox impacted the Continental Army severely during the Revolutionary War, so much so that George Washington mandated inoculation for all Continental soldiers in 1777. Just fifty-six years earlier, in 1721, Bostonian doctors and clergy introduced the procedure to the American colonies. Without the vision and determination of these early Bostonians in normalizing inoculation, Washington may not have made the decision to mandate inoculation for the Continental Army. Though it was a controversial action, many historians credit the medical mandate with the colonists' victory in the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States of America.
I feel very attacked.
"There were signs of low character, we knew that."
Signs? SIGNS?
Mate, you're not cracking a fiendish cypher here. Trump was open about what he was from the 'SEVENTIES, and now it's just "signs," like you distilled this insight from tea leaves and the flight of birds. JFC. These shysters.
Charlie Higson; I pitched for a gig writing an episode for the second season, but it didn't pan out. Close, but no cigar. And, yes, I like Reeves and Mortimer, but they were not the best casting either way around. I also have an R&H(D) screenplay lying around that leans harder into the supernatural.

The smashing cover for the Sixth Doctor boxset, Expulsion. Great centre pose from the Doctor, flanked by Peri in armour, holding a shield, and Turlough wielding a big sword.
A Crucible of Queen is out! Stabby French political shenanigans after the little mishap of Agincourt! And sword-wielding Turlough! Available as part of this fine set of sixth Doctor stories: www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/d...
I'm guessing, but none of those stories was a one-off, so there was more material available. Dorrington and a couple of others even had double outings within the series. Peter Vaughan and Donald Pleasence were so damn good as Dorrington and Carnacki, it's a crime no new series were commissioned.
The latter three had outings in THE RIVALS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (1971-73), which was essentially a whole series of stealth pilots. Remarkably none of them were taken up. Past time to right that oversight.
Oooh, this is fun. "Niche" is open to interpretation, but I'll go with:
- CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER
- RANDALL & HOPKIRK (DECEASED)
- HORACE DORRINGTON i.e. THE DORRINGTON DEED-BOX
- HAGAR STANLEY i.e. HAGAR OF THE PAWN-SHOP
- CARNACKI THE GHOST-FINDER
That's fab. Ye gods, but her voice. Blimey. Bonus points for the return of symbolic pomegranates.
This is an excellent start to a Tuesday

There are some important things to remember in terms of Awards-shortlist day etiquette. A short thread.
Even folks I really like and respect make some blunders on this stuff.
1) Allow people to enjoy the shortlist. Avoid dismissing the finalists (whomever they are) for at least a month.
Here are the cast announced SO FAR-
Thought about this for a few minutes, and dibbled around between assorted nominees, but I think I know my answer now: A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (1946). It still amazes me every time I see it even though I know what's coming. To recapture being entirely unprepared as I sat down to watch it... yeah.
The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...
Fencing's been described as "3D chess played at speed," and that's made it not great as a spectator sport; just understanding the action is difficult. This visualisation technology is excellent for making it comprehensible.
lol suck it.
