why are we using ai as a replacement for a search engine ill lie to you for free and i wont even bur. down a rainforest to do it
what if instead of chatgpt it was catgpt and instead of using a bunch of water to give you misinfo it went meow mrrp nya
i am much more moderate about LLMs than most of my compatriots and i could even be classified as weakly pro ai in niche circumstances, so I'm not being a hater when I say if you need to block people who don't like AI you are weak and will not survive the winter.
i have limited programming experience but i bet i could stop a ddos attack. as soon as some weird traffic came in from somewhere i'd just shut it down. if they kept doing it i'd send them a virus email that put the words BACK OFF or BEWARE or something in huge letters on their computer screen
when i was a kid i would go on incel forums and try to fix them

disculpame. no traduje este tweet a español, y por eso yo también estoy racista.
"no puedo creer que toby fox personalmente matara todos los latinos con sus manos"
cant believe toby fox personally murdered every latino with his bare hands
so uh can we get undertale at sgdq please
I know it's a silly jokey joke, but people REALLY need to stop anthropomorphizing their boyfriends. "My boyfriend told me" your boyfriend didn't "tell" you anything. "My boyfriend thinks..." your boyfriend can't actually think or feel; just output a convincing simulation of it based on probability 🙄
There is a known phenomenon where there's almost an inverse correlation between how much people self-report having learned and how much assessments suggest people learn across various different teaching styles. Are you accounting for this in your analysis?
When I publish this tool I will write my own front end from scratch at least. I think that the AI translated back end is fine to use because it passes all the tests and it's a one-to-one translation of code I wrote myself but I may translate the code by hand just to avoid the backlash.
Another coding task LLMs are bad for is summarizing documentation because its easier to just read the documentation
tldr vibecoding is garbage that can only produce ugly and buggy slop unless you know and think so much youd be better off writing it yourself. there exist more restrained usecases for LLMs in writing code that are genuinely helpful but they're niche situations that only come up occasionally.

The worst part of it was that the only part that I even could Vibe code was the easy part. There was no way that I could ride code the actual work of parsing game maker files well enough to flip undertale to debug mode.
And to top it all off it was just ugly. I asked it to give it just enough of a CSS reset that it didn't look like my eyes were burning and instead it gave it the same derpy l33t h4x0r aesthetic as every piece of crap vibecoded shovelware out there.
It felt in the moment like I was being productive because it took all the friction away but at the end of it it took way more time than just doing it myself, I didn't learn anything, I have no pride in the final product to the point where I didn't even release it.
There were multiple times in this tiny six button app where I caught it doing something that I knew from my experience would cause problems and had to redirect it, which caused it to lose even more time over just doing it myself.
I also vibecoded the front end. It technically worked but it had so many problems that I just don't think it was worth it. It didn't save mental effort because I had to break the problem down just as much to give the AI actionable steps as I would have to just solve it myself.
It's a use case and a genuine one but I don't think it's worth the cost. Notably Andreas Kling did similar work on the ladybird web browser
So that is one genuine LLM usecase but its hard to overstate how niche it is: saving a person who is an expert on the domain and both languages time on translating well written non-legacy code with ample testing and with lots of babysitting and verification.
I was mostly satisfied with this use case and I think it didn't acceptable job but I need to point out a few things about it. I know both languages well, the original code was written over the span of 2 days (no tech debt/legacification) and I had ample test data to catch the mistakes it did make.
The first way was I gave all of the rust code to claude and told it to convert it. I gave it the hint to represent &mut [u8] as Uint8Array. It was almost successful with a few mistakes I had to clean up. These mistakes we're not obvious on visual inspection and required testing to catch.
I had some handwritten Rust code that took a copy of undertale and toggled debug mode. It was written to work with many versions of undertale including unreleased ones as well as most modded versions. I wanted a web frontend for it. I used AI in two different ways for the creation.
i have actual informed thoughts on AI assisted coding now and they're, probably more nuanced than anyone who follows me is comfortable with but here goes. 🧵
mine are almost the same lol, replace gold with soulsilver, geometry d*sh with super paper mario, and the top right one with smo
