I wish non-publishing folks in my life understood how cool it is to be directly responsible for an amendment to CMOS.
Everyone in publishing I've told is like π»!!!!!!! meanwhile I tried to explain it to a friend and she was like uhmm π€¨ cool I guess?!
But it *is* very cool, actually πππ

The amendment is now LIVE!!!
The 17th edition was clear on this, but the 18th edition literally got rid of the one mention of this rule even though it was still supposed to apply. They've added it back thanks to moi π
Honestly props to the CMOS editorsβthey've been great!

Love the initial and final stages of every job when you're just doing cleanup and global checks because I can listen to anything I want. Normally my brain can only handle ambient or something instrumental without percussion when doing the main pass. liturgy.bandcamp.com/album/93696
How do you do this without losing your mind omg...
It's not just annoying, it's infuriating. It serves as a reminder, a testament, and definitive proof of how cooked we are. (See what I did there lol?)
Normally I wouldn't mind but I have to stay up way past my bedtime tonight, so was hoping to sleep in a little π
Why tf am I up at 6 on a Saturday
More sauerkraut and peanut butter for me! π
Don't ask how I know this (I was very drunk during uni days and it sounded genius and it was)
Sauerkraut and peanut butter is lowkey a great combo
Just caught a "lay" that should be "laid" yassss #AmProofreading #AmEditing
Screencap of a spellchecker suggestion box. The word being flagged is "pre-ordered." The suggestions are: per-ordered, ore-ordered, pee-ordered, pr-ordered, re-ordered."
yes google I meant pee-ordered

Anti-trans hatred is the very lifeblood of 21st century fascism and we need everyone to wake up to this simple truth before it's too late.
I'm not saying you need a graphic designer if you're a tiny one-person businessβjust do what every small business did before 2023 or whatever and do it yourself, even if poorly. I love that! Gives me flavor, gives me personality, has charm, makes me want to give you money, etc.!
I feel like a lot of people don't realize just how much AI promotional materials put some people off. I would genuinely never pay for services from a business whose promotional materials are all AI slop. It looks beyond generic and automatically makes me think your product/service is low quality.
An entry that says: pity fuck, n; pity-fuck, v
Fiction style sheets really are so much fun . . .

All those bullshit articles about how writers are secretly using AI are just trying to scare us into putting our mouths to the vomit machine before itβs too late.
But even if they were true, I will be the last motherfucker on earth writing with nothing but spite and my heart of flesh.
I'm sorry* but I really don't want to edit "your" LLM-generated "manuscript" π
*I'm not remotely sorry
Carol of Harvest self-titled album
Also obsessed with this album lately
* ok i know how to spell that word before anyone thinks i'm awful at my job! it's just an ancient meme
been going back and forth between Judy Collins and Neurosis all morning... it's called range sweaty* look it up! π β¨
if i ever went with an editor that did this shit, i would absolutely fucking blast them on socials, i would not remain silent.
This is fucked shit
Yeah it's when it clearly and exclusively means "and" that it bugs me. If it means "and/or," or you're referring to some type of combination, or you're not committing to a word and giving various alternatives, that's all fine. But some people genuinely use it as plain old "and," and *that* I hate.
Ah, that doesn't bother me much really, and neither does tone/vibe (I understand that usage + use it like that myself informally). I'm talking more like "So-and-so's career spans publishing/education" or "So-and-so has lived in Paris/Rome/Madrid" or "So-and-so has one son/two daughters"
Am I the only one who hates it when a slash is used to clearly mean "and," not even "or" including "and/or," just plain old "and"? Why are some writers seemingly obsessed with such usage? The sign itself just screams OR OR OR OR OR to me like omg it signals such a clear alternative / #AmEditing
one of the things I treasure most about writing is it is one of the vanishingly few remaining pursuits that involves sitting quietly with your own thoughtsβsomething the entire tech industry has mobilized to ensure we never do again
I saw her live in 2020 (Birmingham era omg) and I was like one of two people in the audience under 65 (as is the case with a surprisingly large % of shows I go to)
Feeling my Maid of Constant Sorrow oats (aka I am listening to Judy Collins)
Uhmmm how do y'all feel about "Kpop" and "Kdrama" instead of "K-pop" and "K-drama"???
***in case this leaves my editing bubble and any fans find this omg, this is a question about hyphens***
