The climate severity that has been forecasted for decades is here. Thinking about all those whose lives are lost and forever changed due to the floods in Texas and North Carolina. Visiting Asheville and Eastern Tennessee last month just added to the urgent and obvious situation we’re in.

It’s been a busy month but June ended up being a good one. Processing dreams not seen, taking care of dear ones, finding joy in the nooks and crannies. It’s there if you look for it.
Put in the work. Not every day will deserve it. In fact I’m frequently disappointed. I never regret the work though. I’m worth it. You are too.
Took the home team to see the peonies at Linwood Gardens. Then helped pack 76 Mobjects records and some CDs and shirts. And then everyday, I’m reminded that I found my person. Lucky.
Material Objects’ third release and first full-length LP is dropping on June 6. Worked hard on this over the last year. Tour coming up that will take us from Ithaca to Knoxville and back. Come out! Would love to see you. More here: materialobjects.bandcamp.com

My dear Lankum, a beer with Nathan Salsburg (longtime curator of the Alan Lomax archive), and kids in a tree. It’s a good life.

It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and the theme is 'Community.' #Libraries try to remain at the heart of the communities they serve, providing information, wellbeing, and free, safe public spaces while tackling loneliness through events, clubs and group activities. #LoveLibraries ❤️
This administration, in greed, pride, and ignorance, removes a significant voice in our country’s access to information, knowledge, and heritage. Absurd and shameful.
Kudos, Dr. Hayden. Thanks for your service. And that fist bump last Spring.
A quote from today’s Digital Asset Symposium at MoMA: “I’m working with this guy and he’s an MLIS, so of course he’s taking his sweet time.” I feel simultaneously attacked and seen.
Spending the day immersed in digital asset management at MoMA with GLAM colleagues from around the country (and my friend Erwin from Amsterdam). #DAS2025 #AMIA #CCAAA

Gimme fiction.
This is so obvious. The Democratic Party, to have a future, just has to fight for workers and against handouts to unproductive bosses
Government as jazz.
I wrote this in November 2024. It was a difficult thing to write then, and it is a depressing thing to read now. And yet I share it because I think we still need to ask ourselves how far we will go.
So. I wrote a dissertation on how economic crises can lead to the breakdown of authoritarian regimes.
Here are three key point to keep in mind as you watch the news this week 🧵
Yo La Tengo, Tortoise, and - be still my heart - Beth Gibbons at Big Ears Festival, Knoxville TN, my hometown. 3-27-25
“Recklessly joyful.” - Jack Neely
It gives me a little bit of joy to know that right now, Hegseth and Tulsi and Rubio and Waltz are all relying on one another to delete every single incriminating Signal thread and every self-protecting screenshot and this requires 100% compliance and accuracy on all sides.

The public really needs to understand this. Every university system in the world rests on public funding, there has never been an alternative model at any time in history.
We have universities for literally the same reason that we have roads and armies.
I'll write about Ukraine tomorrow, but today another primer on an important economic issue paulkrugman.substack.com/p/the-econom...
HEY EVERYONE REMEMBER WHEN TRUMP WAS IMPEACHED FOR DENYING AID TO UKRAINE BECAUSE HE WANTED ZELENSKY TO LIE AND SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT BIDEN AND ZELENKSY WOULDN’T DO IT?
Maybe literally one fucking American newspapers could mention this in their, “think pieces,” about what happened yesterday.
“Not only can rich people go shopping for clothes and experiences, they can also go shopping for rights.” @profgalloway.com on @pivotpod.bsky.social
A good day. 1. See you soon, ARSC colleagues! Thanks to the National Recording Preservation Foundation for your sponsorship. 2. Take time to listen to your colleagues. It matters. 3. Feel the burn.
