Yep, this is how it was for me, too...

One banana, two banana... three banana? four? I never knew this could happen!
I hope the disappointment did not last too long - it is a very good book in its own right!
Listen up. I know it's been a while, but A Personal Anthology will anthologise tomorrow, like on a normal Friday. Tomorrow's guest editor, picking and introducing a dozen favourite short stories, is Kimmo Rosenthal.

I'm happy to go with the proposition that we make our own reality - if it works in philosophy, it surely works with age. You're *waaay* younger than ol' Vik!
Good morning, Stephen. I've just finished a short story (a few days ahead of the submission deadline, even); the revised edition of my novel Hollowmen is with the editor; I'm in the middle of writing the second book of a mystery series. Day job beckoning now, though☹️

Inspired by the way so many classic songs fade out at the end rather than having an actual ending, in my next book, the text will just get fainter and fainter until you can't see it anymore.
🤣
Happy Birthday Beckett!
Why do some believe that the Prophet Jeremiah is buried in Loughcrew? Or that the ark of the covenant is at Tara? That an Egyptian princess came to Ireland? My new video on Irish pseudohistory will be out at 7.30pm tonight. Enjoy!

Detail from The Dublin Journal issue 1650, April 1743
The famous advertisement in the Dublin Journal from the organisers asked 'Ladies not to come with Hoops' and 'The Gentlemen .. to come without their swords' as they were expecting such big numbers!
Very much looking forward to June 17th in @hodgesfiggis.bsky.social in Dublin. Tell your (Dublin or Dublin-adjacent) friends. Deepest thanks to @junec.bsky.social and @davidcollard.bsky.social for helping me with this. And many thanks to @martindoyle.bsky.social

It's not at all clear why ghosts come back with their clothes, but the ghost story genre would be really different if they didn't.

This is on my radar, too - DeWitt is not an author I've read before, but sounds like one that would appeal. I've ordered it through the library but all the copies in the system are currently out on loan, so it will be a while. It will be interesting to hear what you think of it.
The front cover of this year's West Cork Literary Festival features Seán Keating's painting The Window. It was painted in 1924 and shows the artist's wife sitting in a window seat reading
The artwork on the front cover of our WCLF 2026 brochure will be Seán Keating's The Window (1924). We ADORE it and would like to thank everyone in @crawfordartgallery.bsky.social, IVARO (Irish Visual Artists Rights Organisation) and the estate of Seán Keating ❤️

You would get so many more amazing books if you had Universal Basic Income. Not even the most dream-scenario AI could compete with the creativity of a world of authors no longer afraid of affording rent.
Although the noise and crowdedness of London took a heavy toll, there are a number of things I still miss about it. @cpdinosaurs.bsky.social is one of them. I'll be back! 🦕🦖😍
Detailed watercolor illustration of a Tricholoma russula mushroom, showing a pinkish-red cap, pale gills, and a thick white stem, with handwritten scientific notes surrounding the specimen.
There’s something quietly mesmerizing about #mushrooms, and Violetta White Delafield knew it well. 🍄

Undefined Boundary 4:2 has two articles about The Prisoner, possibly the weirdest and most confounding popular TV series ever made in Britain. One of them also looks at Edge of Darkness with respect to the eco-mystical environment. Edge of Darkness is one of the best TV series ever produced.
