As we celebrate 20 years of advancing equality and opportunity for all, the Movement Advancement Project (MAP) is thrilled to announce the launch of our newly designed website.
Two physicians and their trans kid are one of thousands of families moving states because of politicians targeting trans people going about our daily lives.
Anti-trans laws are forcing families to upend their lives, but every state should be a safe place to raise every family.
Reminding folks that the distance between California’s Prop 8 and Obergefell was 7 years.
Not because we’re on the same timeline, but because we can and have made rapid shifts for equality.
Like Evan, my intuition is things will get better, but it will take work; let’s make it so.
"The law is a tool we use to keep as many people alive as we can while organizers do the more difficult, more lasting work of building a more just world. In that work, there is no such thing as backward. Time will have its way."
Can't recommend this analysis of Chiles enough--and from someone who's been working on this issue from the very beginning.
"Practically speaking, ...we didn’t lose much today. We just outgrew one of our tools. It still gets to feel like a gut punch in a year of gut punches."
Today's Ruling:
❌ Does not legalize conversion therapy
❌ Does not immunize practitioners from civil liability
❌ Does not alter the overwhelming medical and scientific consensus
that conversion therapy is dangerous, ineffective, and harmful
The Good News: The ruling is narrow. The decision is about how conversion therapy can be regulated–not about whether it is safe or legal. It isn’t. And survivors still have legal options to fight back against the harms of conversion therapy, including medical malpractice, consumer fraud claims, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. to not make it sound worse than it is. LGBTQ kids are listening, reading, and watching—and policymakers are too. How we talk about this ruling can shape the ruling's actual impact, for better or worse. This is a setback but not the end of the fight. Let's treat it that way.
There will be a lot of commentary about the Chiles decision. I strongly encourage folks to listen to the movement lawyers at the heart of this case, eg @nclrights.bsky.social, and how they interpret the decision. Yes, this is a loss, but one of the best things you can do to help right now is
The New York Times headline about Idaho's new bathroom law, with a photo of the Idaho State Capitol building at sunset. 🚨HB 752 is heading to the governor's desk to be signed into law or vetoed🚨
Tell Governor Little this bill is dangerous, invasive, and needs a veto by using this form: plannedp.info/47wdWKS
HB 752 would foster an atmosphere of distrust and harm by encouraging people to police, and even document, the appearance of others in bathrooms. Tell Gov. Little to VETO HB 752: plannedp.info/47wdWKS
Always! ❤️
Sharing this gentle, yet necessary reminder with our trans siblings.

Looking to speak with trans Kansans about how SB 244 (the law affecting driver's licenses, birth certificates, bathrooms and more) is affecting your life so far and plans for the future.

This is the thing about bathroom bans targeting trans people - assault is already a crime! Indecent exposure is already a crime! And laws that protect trans people don't suddenly make them legal
Absolutely. Thanks again for responding. We reached out to the paper with the request and also updated the version on our org blog here:

Important clarification for any Kansas readers: passports can still be used to vote! See full list of eligible IDs here. Thanks @madgant.bsky.social!

Also, in this case, I meant “state-issued” as in “government-issued,” but that is obviously an important word choice in this context. I totally see what you mean and I’ll reach out to the paper to ask if they can make that clarification/tweak. Thank you!
I really appreciate this point & also share your fear—that’s why we intentionally described this as a *threat* to voting, not a ban. Drivers licenses are far more commonly held than passports though, so the threat persists, but you’re right that passports can be a workaround for those who have them.
In good news, @aclu.org @aclukansas.bsky.social have already sued over this blatantly unconstitutional law, and amazing mutual aid work and coordination is happening via LGBTQ Foundation of KS, among many others. This fight is far from over.

Out today: a @mapresearch.bsky.social op-ed for @kansasreflector.com @statesnewsroom.com about how Kansas' latest anti-transgender law has many dangerous potential consequences — including to transgender Kansans’ constitutional right to vote.
kansasreflector.com/2026/03/04/k...
Totally agree. Wrote about at least some of the voting implications here, in case helpful. kansasreflector.com/2026/03/04/k...
This story, from @natezuke.bsky.social, is absolutely wild. A trans woman who never changed her gender marker was issued a letter invalidating her license. At the DMV they cut up her license, which had an "M" marker.

Of course we should take this attack seriously; the message it sends to trans kids, their families, & providers is awful & dangerous. And also, let's recognize both the political motivations & broader history. Donate to @transtexas.org & @equalitytexas.bsky.social to help the fight on the ground.
As a reminder, he did something very similar in 2022. The opinion then wasn't legally binding; he can't unilaterally make or change the law in TX. And courts went on to stop him and these efforts as well.

I'm shocked (sarcasm) to see Paxton — who is running for election in a crowded primary...*checks notes*... tomorrow — release yet another attack on transgender kids & their healthcare providers.
Anyway, donate to @transtexas.org to support their work to protect trans kids and fight these antics.
