I hear this and still feel like "wanting" it based on one's own gifts and sense that they can be a good pastor to a community through that lens is actually good and fine. Wanting it for ego and/or salary and/or the outfit is bogus.

also that this is for *full-time* which are positions less and less available; how do our expectations/policies shift in this context?

I think it's totally appropriate for individuals to recognize personal gifts that would serve in an episcopacy and to name that and seek that. AND. I don't trust obvious campaigning and showmanship.
