Hey so in the most recent Antiques Roadshow a woman brought in her great grandmother’s preserved jar of Valentine’s Day neco wafers — one of which has a portrait of Grover Cleveland printed on it — from the year 1890.

A home run on the third (3rd) pitch of the game. So glad my kid is getting the authentic Cubs Season experience.

Cannot believe this is happening right as we’re likely about to go into another Star Trek drought. Though I guess Apollo 8 happened after TOS had been cancelled as well. Just comes along to help us dream.

I have incredibly poor spatial reasoning and cannot understand how everyone is fitting inside this capsule but I love this for them. The best way to keep our military occupied imo.

I keep explaining to my toddler that the person he is named after would also think this is very cool, but he is more focused on his Costco brand egg bites. I cannot win them all.

It was very hard for me to be excited about Artemis. I just needed it to be over and successful before I could celebrate. But now I can and holy shit this is so cool.

My husband has had to hear about this place for the last year (delayed opening, of course) and it has been so nice to scream about it with other people.

I’ve attended three (3!!!!) evening social events over the last four days and I am pleased to report that each one has had an attendee who shares my hyper fixation on a local, incredibly niche themed bar/cafe that just opened and absolutely feels like a Ponzi scheme.

I took my kid to a local bar to watch WBC baseball. He had his first ever grilled cheese and locked the fuck in to root for Venezuela. I cannot put into words how happy it made me??? This is really all I ever wanted to have a baby for lmao.

I am very much a new art person. I have very little knowledge about art history overall. I just know what I like, and unfortunately what I like is this $50k (??????) cowrie shell sculpture.

Swann Galleries is having a Black art auction with pieces from Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, Carrie Mae Weems, & more. I can’t afford any of this — including that Lawrence Toussaint print that I’ve been obsessed with for a minute — but it’s a nice scroll.

Coffee maker wasn’t set up yet so we went out for breakfast down the block. We would see babies all the time around our old apartment but no one ever introduced themselves. Our dude met so many of his peers this morning!

We have moved into a NEIGHBORS building. So many people have kindly and beautifully introduced themselves to us, and of course I’m convinced we’ve made a horrible impression on all of them because we didn’t know where to find the blankets for the elevator for the first two hours of our move in.

If you’re in LA I cannot recommend REAL RocknRoll movers enough. This is our third move with them. It’s gonna be 92* in the Valley today and even though we have them packing our kitchen (and I have been so underfoot otherwise because EYE was not ready) they are making great time as always.

We’re moving tomorrow 🙃

Update: they came and put scaffolding up, did an afternoon of work outside on the 3rd, and left. We’ve heard nothing since, but they did leave the scaffolding up and this morning I noticed two pairs of men’s shorts laid across our balcony railing to dry in the sun.

They are not my husband’s shorts.

While earlier this week I did email the CEO, CFO, and entire board of trustees for the publicly traded landlord company whose shithole building we live in to yell at them about the 8 week ongoing construction in said baby’s nursery, I can admit that that was a nice community moment.

There was a 911 across the street this morning that the LAFD had to put up truck ladders for. Took the baby onto the balcony so he could watch and explained fire trucks to him. Many other parents in the building were doing the same. Couldn’t see them, but we could all hear each other.

We’re just GTFO-ing unfortunately. This is one of those publicly traded national landlords and I am exhausted. I’ve been semi-involved trying to get a tenants union going (1 of their buildings in ktown is on rent strike) but w/ 350+ units nothing is really shaking out yet.

This has been our thought, which is crazy bc we're in one of those "luxury" buildings, so everything is pretty renoed. But they also let the elevator, the entrance on our side of the building, and our garage door break and go unfixed since Christmas, so we do think they're trying to get ppl out.

The place we're moving into is categorically better on most fronts, but obviously I would prefer to simply not be moving on semi-short notice with a one year old!

Filing this whole incident under things that absolutely feel illegal, but that I probably won't be able to do shit about.

But also, no they can't come this morning, because we've also been asking for mold testing for weeks because the area smells like mildew. We've had two huge rainstorms and they never actually fixed the leak! Told them no way in hell can they start more construction until we get test results.
