Matsuoka-san: First of all I want to thank you all for coming, it’s great to have you here. In terms of the story it’s very interesting because who doesn’t want talent? All of the characters in this show strive to get talent so it’s very interesting to watch. I hope you enjoy it!

Maruoka-san: Dear everyone in Boston, we hope you enjoy this incredible showcase of talent! Thank you very much!

Q: Before the screening begins, do you have any remarks for the fans?

Matsuoka-san: Toya, the MC, because wants talent more than anyone else, so he’s very driven to do so, but as he meets other characters and sees what their talents are, his way of thinking starts to change. He has this emotional growth, and I think that’s what makes him very interesting.

Q: In this series, a wide variety of characters with unique talents appear, as they fight for the future of humanity between the Forest of the Greats and the Army of the Sinners.

Could you tell us about your favorite character, or a character you would like fans to pay special attention to?

Matsuoka-san: This is a dark fantasy series so I started thinking of who could produce. I thought of KOHTA YAMAMOTO bc we’d worked together on Attack On Titan and thought he’d be a good fit. Bc this series has Japanese historical figures we wanted to add the shakuhachi which adds that taste.

Q: The score is composed by KOHTA YAMAMOTO, who has also worked on titles such as Attack on Titan and TOUGEN ANKI. As you also serve as a music producer, were there any specific requests you made for the soundtrack, or any memorable episodes from the music production process?

Maruoka-san: One thing that happens when we all recorded together is all of our mics are lined up. Because I'm short, my mic was below all the others, so I started stuffing tissues in my shoes to give myself a boost which was funny when Chiba-san, who voices Touya, noticed.

Q: This series features a large cast of characters and an impressive lineup of voice actors. Could you share any memorable episodes or experiences from the recording sessions?

Maruoka-san: In terms of my acting, one thing I paid attention to, even though she’s a bright character and she does enjoy fighting, she is serious and I try to maintain that in the battle scenes where she has not only this passion but this determination.

Q: Haito may appear to be an ordinary high school girl at first, but when she activates her ability, she inherits the talents of the samurai Miyamoto Musashi. When portraying Haito, what kind of approach or preparation did you take?

Maruoka-san: This is a series that’s very dark but Haito is a bright, shining light, almost as if she’s not reading the room. That the room is dark and she ends up brightening the room just by being herself. In terms of what makes me similar, I have actually practiced Kendo, just like Haito did.

Q: Tell us about the character you voice in this series. Are you at all alike, or are you dissimilar?

Matsuoka-san: To make an anime, it takes a lot of money. I go to companies and ask them to invest and then we make a committee. Next step is to find a studio to make the anime, get a recording studio and a producer. Many people are involved and we have to consult with the original manga artist.

Q: Some fans in the U.S. may not be very familiar with the role of a producer. Mr. Matsuoka, could you tell us how you have been involved in this work as a producer?

Maruoka-san: The way I got the role was through an audition. To do the audition, one thing we do is read the manga so we know what we’re auditioning for. But when I read the manga I got so absorbed I almost forgot I had an audition!

Q: Ms. Maruoka, how did you come to be cast in Petals of Reincarnation? Also, could you share your impression when you first read the original work?

Matsuoka-san: As a producer part of my job is to read manga to see which ones are fit to become an anime. I read Petals of Reincarnation and thought it would be interesting. When it came to the idea of broadcasting it on tv, it became kind of difficult.

Q: To begin with, could you tell us how Petals of Reincarnation, based on the original manga by Mikihisa Konishi, came to be adapted into an anime?
