So most members want him to stay, right?
Sound on, hats off.
Stupid I agree with!
But I am not the only one to have noticed the contrast between the howling mob pursuing Starmer, and the near-total silence of commentators on the position of Nigel Farage, who actually does appear in the files
I'm certainly not defending Mandelson in any sense (and, no, I've never thought of him as other than sleazy). And I agree that Starmer was an idiot to appoint him. (cont.)
Sorry to see you joining the lynch mob, Adam. I thought better of you.
This tells you what the people who put bets on elections think. Does it tell you anything else?
I like politicians who change their mind when it seems the right thing to do. Much better than the "not for turning" idiocy
I have big doubts about Streeting, but like people who admit it when they are wrong
There is no evidence that stripping refugees' rights one by one will have any impact on people crossing the channel.
Taking jewellery from refugees is akin to painting over murals for refugee children.
These repugnant ‘deterrents’ did not work for the Tories, and they won't work for us.
Labour MP Simon Opher - "We should stop the boats because it's dangerous, and we should stop the scapegoating of immigrants because it's wrong and cruel.
"Measures that create bureaucracy and insecurity do not offer clarity or strengthen control – they cost money, waste time and weaken the system."
Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?
I wonder whether this accurately represents the results of the survey. If I had been asked to answer this question, I would have interpreted it as asking whether I thought one party represented older people more than others. And I might have responded that they are all much the same.
“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.”

Headline from the Daily Mail, 11 April 1927: "Stop the Flapper-Vote Folly!"
The right-wing press is going mad over votes at 16 ("a naked attempt to twist democracy in Labour’s favour", an "election-rigging move"...)
Oddly, they said the same 100 years ago when the voting age for women fell from 30 to 21.
Let's revisit the Mail's campaign to"Stop the Flapper Vote Folly"...
That, I think, is how lawyers pronounce it. Sad, I know, but that's how it is
Speaking as an octogenarian, I'm delighted that it has passed
This isn't happening. More relevant is the use of completion rates as a factor in constructing league tables

Back in the days when we had a Labour Party....
No exodus to state sector after VAT added to private school fees, say English councils
Most say they have seen no impact on applications for year 7 places, despite warnings from those against policy

Just for once, just for once in my life, I would like to see a panel or symposium or essay cluster on "the future of the university" (or its infinite variations) feature mostly scholars who have done a lot of teaching and admin and advising, and who have done it at schools that aren't super rich.
The Telegraph’s been reproducing versions of this same story for years. Wokeness and a ‘recipe for a crisis’ in membership. But National Trust member retention is higher than comparator organisations despite the cost of living crisis, and visitor numbers have been increasing.

Incredibly moving Justin Trudeau remarks:
"We have fought and died alongside you....During your darkest hours...we were always there. Standing with you, grieving with you, the American people....Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us."
