The eight planets of the Solar System in approximately true color and size, lined up. All the giant planets have their rings, though only Saturn's are clearly visible.

Big ol' render of the eight planets.
Jupiter's texture is by Björn Jónsson, Saturn and all of the giants' rings (yes, they all have them - look very closely) are by Askaniy. Earth's clouds use EUMETSAT data.

Oh I see, so it's one of the more fuzzy classifications lol
I was going off of Wikipedia so yeah. Checking Eris' orbital parameters, most of its orbit lies outside the Kuiper Cliff at around 48 AU so I'd personally consider it separate from the belt, but I'll let an expert chip in on this

Frustrated little dude gripping a pencil saying “how do I pack this down into something I can actually share?” While swirling rainbows labeled “INFINITE POTENTIAL” float around them.

Little dude frowns at a tiny grey box, exclaiming “all that work for THIS?!”

Little dude shoves the grey box into another little guy’s hands; Frowning, stomping off, and saying “Here you go, I made this, it sucks.”

Second little dude cracks open the box, swirling rainbows project out onto their face.

Second little dude stares in awe at all the swirling rainbows now floating around them.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Eris is considered a scattered disc object, if I'm not mistaken

Also I definitely could've chosen a better comment for Mars, given some signs of (past) life were recently found and it was big news a while back. oh well

Errors I wish I bothered fixing: Ilmarë should be slightly darker than Varda, and Charon feels a bit too bright but I'm not so sure here. Either way I don't feel like posting a third version, but maybe I will in the future. I only have so much patience for rendering animations lol

Earth's clouds use modified EUMETSAT data. Jupiter, Rhea & Galilean moon textures created by Björn Jónsson. Ceres, Hygiea and some moons use models from 3D Asteroid Catalogue. Music by me.

i know comments like "i don't know what i just watched but i love it" are meant to be positive but i can't help but be a little pissed off when i see them lol

like i know not everyone can process certain types of art but this just sounds like they dont care even if they still like the work

Comic. [planets and astronomical bodies in various shapes with comments pointing to them] Typical Exoplanet System: Giant planet orbiting so close that it’s actually rolling on the star’s surface; Hot Jupiter; Mini Neptune; Planet that could be habitable, if there’s a form of life that hates water but loves acid and being on fire; Cold Jupiter; Potentially habitable void; Hot Mars; Planet that may actually be in the habitable zone, according to a very optimistic modeling paper by some desperate postdocs; There’s a pulsar here but it’s probably fine; A waterworld paradise with beautiful oceans and warm— Wait, no, we just got new measurements, it’s a hellish steam oven; Mini Pluto; Earthlike data artifact; Wet Saturn; Either a gas giant or a fist-sized rock, depending which calibration method you use; Faint dust cloud that will cause several papers to be retracted; Somehow this whole system is smaller than the orbit of Mercury?!; Planet whose surface may host conditions suitable for rocks
