Big housing news in San Francisco today: the Board of Supervisors (their equivalent of City Council) votes to upzone the entire western half of the city. Currently much of the westside is houses. Commercial streets get a height boost.

People in the USA are really fixated on personal ownership of stuff. Iβm not particularly anti-materialist but, folks, we can share stuff (cars, bikes, books, tools, buildings) and it makes the world better.
absolutely devastating to see the hard work the team has put together and the belief from so many great people in the community, yet we werent even given the chance to even be taken seriously
Some news: This winter Team Oonee is launching NYC's first Dutch-Styleπ² parking hub in Brooklyn's Sunset Park. The Hub will provide free parking for 100+ bikes/scooters, and will include safe charging, and appt based repairs + lite service. This will make history in several ways.

there should be a website where people can watch the revenues from congestion pricing accruing in real time I would love that
reducing car ownership should be the goal - not just changing how our cars work and function
Where bike-friendly infrastructure is the norm, kids gain freedom. No car keys, no backseat waiting. They learn independence, time management, and how to get around on their own. A small shift in how we design cities helps them grow into confident, capable adults.
Great starting point!
Need ideas for what 2 parking spaces could be used for? Drew a few things up that would be obvious starters.
might post a couple more for that same use of space
You should be outraged about Intro 606 (a bill to require e-bike "licenses") -- EVEN IF YOU DO NOT RIDE AN E-BIKE.
It's an insane stop-and-frisk revival.
The bill would let the NYPD pull over ANYONE on ANY BIKE -- even if they haven't broken the law.
Let me explain...
seriously, if there's an org that can help refurbish old cars or buses for outdoor dining β give the city what it wants. they want cars in parking spots, give them cars in parking spots
speak out against 606 tomorrow!! ebike regulation is not what u think it is!!
"The bill is named after Priscilla Loke, who was run down and killed by a Citi Bike rider, but the bill would not have prevented her death: Citi Bikes are already registered... and the rider who killed her remained on the scene and was questioned by NYPD." nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/12/10/t...
A damning rebuttal to the concern trolling about how bike infrastructure will delay emergency vehicles. It's not the bike lanes that will delay them; it's the cars stuck in gridlock. In this case, the bike lane helped!
team: uploaded all the locations for the houses we wanna analyze to the drive
me: thanks
me opens up the file in qgis only to take 5 minutes and take me wayyyyyy off the map

who else has a small pet peeve when people get up on the subway BEFORE the train reaches the stop?!? like the train isn't full, and unless you have a disability, you have more than 10 seconds to get off!!!
this is sick
sometimes its fun to be more specific π
Find the same experience to be true!
citibike aint no rat
show up on dec 11 to push back against this awful legislation and save e-bikes www.mobilize.us/transalt/eve...
if you stuck around and want to learn how you can call live citibike data or want to learn more about the intro 606 legislation that @openplans.org and @transalt.org has been pushing about, check out my blog post below open.substack.com/pub/inspaces...
i've written about this before, but we need better roads, better bike chargers, and better regulation with delivery apps to lower the speeds delivery drivers take. we shouldn't cap the type of transportation everyone is allowed to take.
this is really just another form of stop and frisk, as now nypd can potentially stop anyone without a license β typically delivery drivers who are immigrants and people of color. licensing does not actually increase bike safety β biking infrastructure does
and while it turns out that citibike was not in fact the getaway vehicle, what is concerning is the ongoing e-bike licensing legislation that might get passed in nycc on december 11
with help from @tensorbodega.bsky.social, i found that lyft publishes a live api endpoint you can call, with in addition to a specific token, you can use to get specific bike info to track where bikes are coming in and out of
y'all might have seen the tweeting going on bout pulling live citibike data to track the suspect who shot the unitedhealthcare ceo. its actually not too hard to do this if you were interested yourself π
depending on the right audience, which is even more critical in room full of transit activists, is to get at the heart of why we do any of this work β which is to help make our city easier to get around and change the physical landscape for the better
me, after having just finihed watching yi yi: can i take a photo of the back of your head?
