Please dear Maintenance Gods, enable smoke detectors to recharge rechargeable batteries so they never need to be replaced.

Smoke detectors these days are hard wired into your home's electricity (and interconnected so one detector triggers an alarm in all detectors). They still require batteries, presumably in case of a fire during a power outage.

Those batteries still need to be replaced - recommended yearly.
