An architectural style drawing of Cumberland Basin in Bristol, black and white, showing the road layouts crossing the avon and the basin
Do the roads across Cumberland Basin float your boat? I came across them from this Pedestrian Diversions video www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqDX...
Got enamoured enough to order a couple of high-res images from the @themerl.bsky.social to print for my walls
BLOG POST: Notes on The Rising Sun, Frampton Cotterell, whose appeal is perhaps down to being frozen in time. 🍺🍻

BLOG POST: An attempt to pull together what we know about the history of The Kings Head in Bristol, a (wonderful) pub that maybe *feels* older than it is. 🍻🍺

A wide angle shot of the same interior, a dimly lit pub with a dartboard, pool table, and the bar is covered in graffiti
I visited the Dame in bedminster last weekend, here's my dartboard report: fredcook.co.uk/2026/03/07/T...
Yes! One of the bar men at the crown tavern in Bristol was involved in the photo shoot and has one of the jackets, it looks mint and I couldn't be more jealous
Three logos in a row, on the left the Adidas logo, on the right the Bass beer logo, in the middle my amalgamation. It has the red triangle of bass chopped into 3 sections like the Adidas logo, slightly offset. The text underneath says adibass, in the curly cursive handwriting of the bass logo
Couldn't get the idea of adibass out of my head 🔺🔺🔺
Darts wasn't on my radar the last time I went to the Hare on the hill and now I always get drawn into the Hillgrove before I reach it. I'll have to go and have a look if the board is still there!
Which pub is the picture from? Quite brave with no surround 😓
BLOG POST: Dartboards and pubs go together, everyone knows that. But how long has that been the case? And, actually, how old is darts as a game? 🍺🍻

My brother wanted a London pub crawl. The result? My new Substack post: "Britain Lost 14,000 Third Places. They were Called Pubs. Is Your Local Next?" How private equity reshaped the local, which pubs are most at risk and most importantly what to do about it.

BLOG POST: We need to know when you'll be open, what beers you'll be serving, maybe what food you have, and whether there'll be an open mic folk music session going on while we're trying to chat. Could there be an app for that?

The Odeon on Union Street in Bristol... with a Lidl now underneath it.
Farewell to Bristol's Odeon on Union Street that closes today.
Saw so many classics there over the years, but the opening night screening of Deep Blue Sea in 1999 will forever remain a highlight with the whole audience screaming, cheering and gasping in surprise at certain key deaths!
