The top half can root in water, but I don't know about the bottom part. It would hopefully regrow, and then you could have 2! I've been wondering about this for my own, because it is getting so tall and top heavy.

Oh no! I had a cup of hot coffee somehow spill into my seat while driving to work a few weeks ago, and that was not a good way to start the day. Fortunately I was wearing black pants, and I don't mind smelling like coffee too much.
