💧🌍On #WorldEarthDay, water protection must stay at the heart of Europe’s agenda
As the EU revises the #WaterFrameworkDirective, it’s time to strengthen:
✔️Groundwater protection
✔️Pollution prevention at source
✔️Long-term water resilience
Protecting water is essential for today and future generations
Posts by Natural Mineral Waters Europe
💧Europe counts 2,000 natural mineral water sources, each with a unique taste & mineral composition shaped by local geology
🌧️Rainwater filters naturally through soil & rock for years, sometimes thousands, enriching the water with minerals along the way

In 2025, Radenska Adriatic supported BioBlitz #Slovenia directly around its #naturalmineralwater sources in Radenci 🌿
💧By focusing on #biodiversity at the source, the initiative reinforced the importance of protecting the ecosystems that safeguard water at its origin.

What does real biodiversity action look like on the ground?
With #Sources4Nature, NMWE turns commitments into concrete action at natural mineral & spring water sites across Europe
Developed w/ IUCN,the project implements practical measures to protect ecosystems, strengthen habitats & build resilience
A single💧of #naturalmineralwater has a long story to tell:
- It begins as🌧️
- During its underground journey through layers of🪨, it's naturally filtered & enriched
- It is bottled at the source to preserve its natural composition
More than 2,000 natural mineral & #springwater sources across #Europe
A major milestone for #circularity in #Portugal!
♻️Today marks the launch of Portugal’s #DepositReturnSystem, boosting high-quality recycling, increasing collection and advancing the circular economy.
With F. Furtado de Mendonça we celebrate the industry’s strong commitment to making it a success.
💧NMWE joined a stakeholder dialogue on the future of the #WaterFrameworkDirective with policymakers and business leaders.
As water risks grow, long-term access to high-quality water is vital for all water-dependent sectors.
We call for ambitious water protection and effective implementation.
💧This #WorldHealthDay, raise a glass to healthy futures!
Staying hydrated supports physical & mental health & helps prevent diseases like type 2 diabetes
Many Europeans still don’t drink enough, especially children, older adults & pregnant women. A few extra glasses a day can make a real difference💙
As we speak, across Europe #DRS are being discussed and implemented more than ever before.
DRS reduces litter and increases recycling and reuse rates for beverage packaging, thereby increasing circularity.
Check out the current status of DRS in Europe: naturalmineralwaterseurope.org/drs-map
🏆 Austria’s first year of #DepositReturnSystem delivers: 81.5% return rate with 1.4 billion containers successfully brought back into the loop.
The takeaway? A #DRS operator that is
1️⃣industry-led and
2️⃣structured as a nonprofit
makes all the difference.

💧 As the @ec.europa.eu prepares the Water Framework Directive revision, this hard-won agreement must not be undermined. Reopening the WFD beyond the very limited purpose of strategic critical raw material extraction should be avoided.
🟢 The European Parliament has endorsed the revised Directive updating pollutant lists under EU water legislation, closing a long legislative process.
The new rules introduce stricter standards and expand monitoring to additional substances, including PFAS and certain pharmaceuticals.

🌍 Today is #ZeroWasteDay, a call to action to conserve resources and rethink our impact on the planet.
At NMWE we are committed to advancing efficient waste collection and closed loop recycling. Let's pave the way for a healthier environment and a thriving future for all. ♻️
Following the IUCN biodiversity recommendations, NMWE launches Sources for Nature, a 2-year pilot applying the framework at source level across Europe.

🌱 Key focus: protecting water resources, sustainability, and responsible sector practices.
♻️Today is #GlobalRecyclingDay!
Natural mineral & spring water producers are working across the value chain to give every bottle a second life, from boosting recycled content to supporting #DepositReturnSystems.

EU institutions are evolving,so must our advocacy
As the EU landscape shifts,we need sharper narratives, smarter outreach, & messages that truly cut through
Great discussion last week at NMWE #PublicAffairs Committee meeting w/ S.Borst (AdvocacyStrategy) on navigating new EU decision-making dynamics

👏 Many thanks to A. Meusburger and F. Lugovic from @therightstreet.bsky.social for their interesting presentation to NMWE COMMS Committee today.
Great insights on how policy Comms in Bxl is evolving, the role of ≠ communication channels, & how organisations can position themselves in policy debates.
🔔 Reminder – Public consultation open until 15/03
The draft Design Guidelines for Circularity support better recyclability, material efficiency and lifecycle performance.
Stakeholders across the value chain are invited to review the draft and share feedback.

This week, the European Committee of the Regions adopted its opinion on the European #WaterResilienceStrategy.
NMWE welcomes the focus on the robust implementation of EU water legislation, aquifer protection, action on PFAS, river basin management, and nature-based solutions.
🌍#WorldWildlifeDay reminds us that protecting nature means protecting our future.
💧Across Europe, NMWE members work to safeguard water sources, restore habitats and support local biodiversity.
Together, we can ensure nature and people thrive.

💧#DYK the composition of #naturalmineralwater reflects its terroir?
As water flows through different rocks, its mineral content can range from just a few mg/L to several thousand, creating diverse tastes and characteristics.
