This is extremely smart and I’m looking forward to trying it
Maybe people just aren’t ready to face how close we are to the 2030s
Jangly is…anxious, basically. I don’t know why tornadoes soothe it to be honest. Maybe they focus my mind on one anxious thing so the rest calms down. 🤷🏻♀️
Feeling jangly, time to watch tornadoes on YouTube
I find shows like Margo Has Money Problems more stressful to watch than shows like Chernobyl and I know that’s ridiculous but it’s the case
i will give the press corpse this — going to the trouble of printing a couple of lines of the first amendment out on a sheet of fabric to express your fears about encroachment, then folding it up and putting it away in your suit pocket *does* send a message. it’s just not the message they think.
Holy SHIT someone found the test pressing of Robert Johnson's Cross Road Blues and it is clear as a PIN www.openculture.com/2026/04/reco...
The issue is that it’s a trend — if it stopped with that move at Ohio State, that would be unfortunate but not disastrous. What concerns me is that it’s not clear where this stops, as colleges all over consolidate, close, consolidate again, all the while hemorrhaging programs, etc.
MAGA is accelerating and taking advantage of things that were already happening for their own particularly extreme version of our general social disinvestment in education
Certainly. But they’re not a majority — the majority of people are just not paying attention or imagining that the infrastructure that has existed could vanish. If people want US society to have education and all the effects that widespread education brings, they’re going to have to fight for it.
I mean, the inequality part of it is also bad, for sure! But I’m starting to feel like people are underestimating how much allowing higher ed to disintegrate like this will put big holes in the social fabric beyond college education.
That’s exactly the kind of thing I mean!
I think more people should be talking about the impact the OBBB is going to have on higher ed when the enforcement mechanisms kick in July 1.
I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I am begging people to picture the society that has no educational infrastructure for these subjects except at the ivy level

Gonna hope for an medieval exemplum-style miracle to make peace between both wolves
It’s not the Lord of the Rings extended editions
Inside me are two wolves: one is an egghead scholar unjudgementally interested in all phenomenologies of reading; the other is a cranky cradle catholic deeply offended by the idea of a “marathon bible reading”
Iran blockades the straits in response to the United States blockading the straits in response to Iran blockading the straits. As we are now all in agreement there should be a blockade, I see no reason to why our two nations’ navies cannot cooperate in the blockade until we surrender to ourselves.
Truly. Everyone I know who went to Hampshire is smart and weird, and I worry-- for this and many other reasons-- that we are building a version of higher education that simply has no place for the smart and the weird.
Huh. Kinzinger cut a pro-referendum ad in VA. Good for him.
Oh well, at least he’s making sure he doesn’t seem biased or anything
It is not good for man to be alone, since it takes two people to cut the cat’s nails or put a duvet cover on sometimes
And I just want to be sure to thank the bipartisan consensus on the gutting of higher education that led the Biden administration to start this work that the Trump administration is so ably carrying to fruition.
And hey, I hope you didn’t like women’s colleges. Our graduates make at best 84 cents on the dollar even when they do get into higher paying jobs, so their majors are also at risk of being barred from federal loans.
And all these western civ maniacs better get ready for no literature or art to be taught in college because our programs die faster than they already are when we are also barred from federal loans because our students’ degrees take longer to appreciate
Also, if you’re doing cancer research in grad school, the undergrad bio program that trained you is about to get barred from federal loans because your earnings are technically listed as zero four years post grad
