I saw her live, I think prior to this album, and she was so good. So many good pop songs on this and her first album. I wish she did more music. She hasn’t had an album since this but has released some meh singles.

Literally every track. I wore this cassette out. There was a time in the 80s/early 90s when the chorus of a song seemed to be bigger vocally than the verses. I miss that.

I’m not a huge country fan though there are some that I enjoy—this album is one of them. How she’s not more popular I don’t know. Diane is an amazing song.

The amount of cursing I do around the house and I have no desire to explain to their teacher why they say fuck all the time.

They would not be allowed to touch a single thing around the house

They’ll ruin my trips to Disney

You’ve seen me react when the dogs throw up

My love for school would inspire an equal and opposite reaction in them and I’d have to kill them

I’m not going to listen to them whine about not having a phone until they are no longer living under my roof

Ten minutes early is late to me. They’ll make me late.

You think imma let them watch some dumb cartoon when I need to watch my show?

They’re not riding in my car.

I probably won’t let them on the lawn. You see how green it is. I want it to stay that way.

I’d be a nightmare on the sidelines of any sport they want to play

Last night the husband and I were chatting about kids which I’m perfectly fine not having—and he felt bad because he thinks I would make a great dad. To which I replied—are you fucking serious? And then proceeded over the course of our date night dinner to offer the following:

This is a compilation/remix album that I guess was my second of the type after Madonna’s You Can Dance (also excellent). I remember hearing some of these tracks at DC Tracks. The Utah Saints mix of Dreaming is my favorite. So associated with summer after graduating high school, my jeep, freedom

This is a horrible tragedy. Dr. Wanzer Fairfax and I were friends in elementary school—we were jump rope besties and taught ourselves cursive in 1st grade. This poor family.

Billie Ray Martin and Kristine W hit my little CD changer about the same time and while KW seems to have had more of an impact on gay dance floors—this particular album is just so damn good. The title track, You and I, Your Loving Arms and I Don’t Believe are stands out on a really good album

I remember Beth Hart on the OG Star Search but it wasn’t until this album that I became a huge fan—the grit of her voice…man, I love this album. She can do rock, blues, pop…while the first six songs are my absolute faves, the whole album is so good. I would love to see her live

My husband knows how much I love her and one of my favorite early dating memories is him playing Mad About You on his phone on a tipsy walk home one night and holding hands.

Another Annie Lennox album that I love —every song is a gift. Rightfully nominated for album of the year at the Grammys. I will always associate Money Can’t Buy It with Demi Moore in Striptease (also an underrated appreciated film and performance)

I don’t know how this album got overlooked come awards time. I’ll always associate this album with a terrible relationship with a South Jersey Italian. Long story.

I had a great conversation with a student (10th grade) about a main character in Cry, the Beloved Country that started with his question “it’s ok that I’m not sure I actually like Kumalo, right?” Then we discussed all the ways that make the character a realistic portrayal of a human being.

Amy Grant’s foray into pop in the early 90s. Cut to me mowing the lawn with my Walkman jamming out to all these songs. When the video for Every Heartbeat came out in 1991, I got a lot of “you look like this guy…” from the 8th grade girls. I’ll take it.
