I can't stop laughing at this post. It's perfect.
Otto often sleeps like someone threw him across the room and he couldn't be bothered to move from the positioned he landed in
whenever my cat stands up on his two hind legs I am like "amazing, you are like a little man"
My grandma, Linda, died yesterday. She was one of my favorite people on this earth - gentle, warm, funny, kind, open-minded, spirited, faithful, joyful, loving. Through her unconditional love for me, I felt something of God's unconditional love for all of us. I will miss her more than I can say.
we have no choice but to conclude that he doesn't believe israel has the right to exist
My sister in Christ, Jesus sees you as an autonomous human being with fundamental human dignity and wants you to see yourself that way too, I promise you
What is he doing answering constituent calls? Why isn't he visiting the beautiful country of Israel? Is it because he doesn't believe that Israel has the right to exist?
"Give up your rights. Deny your own fundamental personhood. Submit to your abusive husband. God will reward you for it when you die." This is the voice of the evil one!!!!!!!
This is (among other things) an example of works righteousness and it is a lie from the pit of hell
My favorite kind of Easter post is something like, “Have you Christians considered that a person can’t just come back from the dead?” Like that hasn’t been a point of contention since the first Easter morning.
As faith leaders call for peace, officials like Pete Hegseth are using religion to justify war, says Palestinian theologian Reverend Munther Isaac.
"What we’ve witnessed is actually two versions of Christianity," one based on "the ethics of Christ" and the other "shaped by Christian nationalism."
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about him [that is, Christ]: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic–on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg–or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse…. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
Not the biggest C.S. Lewis fan but he was cookin when he said this
Respectfully, without death and resurrection what else is there? Jesus as a nice guy who met a sticky end but said some nice things about how we should treat one another? Plenty of people like that throughout history. They can inspire us, but there's no need to go to church every week for that.
The death and resurrection mean very little to us,” said Harper of her liberal congregation. Instead, she focuses on Jesus as a prophet whose ministry embodied radical inclusion and who might inspire others to act in the face of injustice. “Even if we don’t believe Jesus was divine, which most of us do not, we do believe that he was one of the great prophets, great teachers of the world,” she said.
This just makes me profoundly sad for the people of this congregation
If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
My mom about my German boyfriend every time she meets a German person now: Please tell him I met a German person today
once again:
It's also so much less interesting—and less relevant to suffering people—than the creator of the cosmos willingly dying (on a cross, of all things!) for the sins of the world, and once again reduces Jesus down to a mascot for "our side" of our particular political spectrum
If I see another fellow minister of word and sacrament talk about Good Friday as the state-sponsored execution of a political revolutionary... 😑 I don't disagree with that framing but to offer it as the only framing, especially as a pastor, especially of this day, of all days... come on!!

Maundy Thursday in rural Illinois: someone drove their tractor to church
😭
TL/DR: the pattern of our lives really is death and resurrection!!
Blessed Triduum. Linking the first part of a long (indulgent) essay I wrote last year about the Holy Week I spent coping with the immediate aftermath of a breakup. substack.com/@elizabethca...

One of my favorite things about my cat Zadie is that she LOVES ice cream and if I'm eating it she'll track me down from anywhere in the house to ask for some 🥲
