rising fury at the 1vp card being taken again!

three people are sat around the table in a pub playing the game. Pieces and dice are scattered on the board. Hands and arms are blurred with activity, one player moving cards in their hand, another has hands open plaintively while the third player reaches over to grab something.
A photograph of the game rulebook. It is confusing and there is lots of text and images all over, sideways. There is a sticker that declares "Stare at this sentence for 5 seconds and say" and another sticker below saying "We'll figure it out as we go"
A photograph of a wooden tabletop covered in game components. A sepia map of a sea, some cards, some strange dice, a rulebook with a handsome cat, and a board game box with some lads in front of a castle.
A photograph of a game board at an angle, we can make out lines across a map of a sea, and boxes showing different bits of land. There is illegible text on the map, and a variety of colourful tokens placed on the map. There is a couple of dice near the board, that show the same number on every side.
Made a new game: "It's (almost) as if you are playing a board game". It's a board game about playing games, almost. It's on Itch, BGG, and there are more details on my website. benkirman.itch.io/its-almost-a...

I tried to remember when I started using the site and its somehow been over 20 years!?! Since around the Odeon business I think. Probably from this link in NTK www.ntk.net/2004/01/30/?...
Cheers for everything, god emperor of web scraping!
@dracos.co.uk thanks for the suggestion to visit Penge this morning. I've never been, but a pleasant rush of memories of weird and funny books. I owe you a pint of large and a woodbine!

A photograph of a pavement with seven small round access hatches marked "water"
it often takes the water guys a few attempts before they find a vein
A photograph of a tabletop showing a hex map with lots of sea spaces filled in, and one small island space with the marking "RIP". Also on the table is pages of charts and tables from the game "12 years at Sea" and expansions by Max Moon games. It is open on the page "Marsh creatures"
Great to finally sit down and play Twelve Years at Sea, by @maxmoon.bsky.social . My first crew, two captains and two pacifists on a raft, spent 3 years lost in the fae mists, fled from a dragon, finally discovered a marshy island and immediately got eaten by crocodiles. 10/10 🐊
realised i dont need to wait to publish to have a diagram of my own, don't ask what it's about i think it's pretty self explanatory
THE HAMMER OF TRANSFORMATIVE NOSTALGIFICATION, a black and white diagram illustrating a hammer (SHAFT/CLAW OF CYNICISM) striking a golden DESIGN cube held in a CONCEPT VICE, while NOSTALGIA PARTICLES fly off
love it! we presented this at alt CHI one year.
A blue zine mockup for a game called Chord, the cover shows a morose face surrounded by piano keys and small creatures hopping around them.
CHORD is coming March 24, two player miniature capture the flag skirmish game played on a piano keyboard that generates ambient music while you play.
My first skirmish game release!
Pay what you want on itch and a few scrappy diy zines in my bag at adepticon.
misheard this today, and like it better. Also yes I have a big deadline tomorrow can you tell?
A crudely drawn cool horse looking pretty darn pleased with her nice yellow raincoat
You know how the saying goes: When it rains, zip horse.
B.ENO
I have been informed that Mr. Eno has now seen this. “Very amusing” was the verdict.
I get up to all sorts on Patreon.com/frasergeesin if you fancy it.
My comics are also “Very amusing” and cheap from Frasergeesin.com
framing this
what do you mean hamnet isn't about pig internet
The first section translated to English:
"The immortality of the gods must be worshipped by all, and their plurality feared everywhere. They are stupid and truly foolish who say there is a single God, and impudently speak against the rites of old."
Cool cool cool.
A scan of the first page of the linked book: "DER LUDUS DE ANTICHRISTO", a german translation of the latin play
Doing some research and came across a mysterious latin play called "LUDUS DE ANTICHRISTO".
A moment of realisation that I might accidentally be in the first act of John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness".

Congratulations! I had no idea they printed IGGI on there, and not the thesis title. Also what's with the window in the envelope! Get it framed and up behind your desk visible on zoom calls :)
One for you @maffrj.bsky.social
A large red dumpster bin has a website link to a "customer zone" above a yellow warning label indicating a "crush zone"
Biffa bins offer just two types of zone. Choose wisely ♻️
profound insight needs no context!
all thought comes back to tea towels
Not... yet! The dice are part of a slightly bigger project I need to actually finish and get out of my brain.
I did think about that copy of Meal Deal in the game cafe. Little bits of subtle action, not *against* the venue (e.g. breaking their HP licensed games) but a bit like flyering somehow.
oldee timey painting of a spaniel dog in a fancy room. They have playing cards in their paw, a poker visor and a smoking pipe
London & London commutable playful folks… the CAR BOOT CASINO will soon be opening its doors once more!
If you’ve a homebrew card or bluffing game you’d be up for showcasing & running a table then drop me a line
Wasn't everyone at the table a winner, really, when Brucie is involved?
Need to share what will likely be my lifetime's finest #boardgame victory, but will be utterly incomprehensible to explain: We were playing 13 Beavers (boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/42...), and not only did I correctly get through the "Tempting Tunnel", to win I had an 11, chose HIGHER, and drew a 13.
That's the downside unfortunately - might be video playthroughs and AARs on BGG? Closer to home, and more digital games, theres interesting folks at donau-uni.ac.at/ags that might be interesting to chat with (volunteer to do a talk! academics and students would be interested to hear from you!)
Also shout out to the group at Kings in London, they recently had an event about social justice in board games with a good collection and great discussion: www.kcl.ac.uk/events/gamin... and Games Transformed festival: www.instagram.com/gamestransfo...
Great recommendations - telling that there is a bunch of @hollandspiele.bsky.social titles here, they do amazing work. Also strong recommend for @amabel.bsky.social 's book "Cardboard Ghosts" which is about pretty much exactly this topic (plus her Youtube channel).
