Memory allocation and UI layout end up being remarkably similar. You're packing and removing a bunch of stuff with unpredictable sizes into a fixed amount of space, and you don't want to rearrange what you've already placed any more than you have to.

I think the most heartbreaking part of the whole Meta arc, is that the talent they had, and 80 billion dollars, could absolutely have built the metaverse of our 90s cyberpunk dreams. It was just so mismanaged, aimless, opportunity pissed away.

Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.
