Let this be a warning to Democrats: If you insist on criticizing a country that kills tens of thousands of civilians, you risk losing the support of people who defend the killing of tens of thousands of civilians.

Not all epiphanies bring joy. There was the day, for example, when I had just finished giving a keynote address at a conference and realized that enthusiastic applause at the end of a speech might be communicating nothing more than the audience's pleasure at its being over.
Only because Lyndon LaRouche's party is defunct.
If the assumption were correct, wouldn't that be even more alarming?
Every week, it seems, Trump et al. do something where you say, "What would most Americans think if this happened in another country?" This one's a doozy: The head of state installs his personal lawyer in the DOJ to persecute his enemies...in the court of a loyalist judge he appointed: is.gd/Bx0anq
Plum stupid, one might say
Study 1: A controlling style of parenting (threats, guilt, demanding high achievement) leads teens to lie, while autonomy support (letting kids make decisions) promotes honesty: is.gd/yrbwB0.
Study 2: A controlling parental style is associated with teens' engaging in cyberbullying: is.gd/ziVkTJ
All these right wingers who converted to Catholicism in adulthood were just shopping around for an ideology that justified their pre-existing instincts and prejudices. If you convince them that Catholicism means peace and charity they'll just drop it and keep shopping.
Now do Darth Vader vs. Trump

"Cold calling" puts students on the spot and forces them to perform on command. But even making willing students raise their hands and wait to be called on is problematic.

The tendency to pull out one's phone whenever one has a spare moment - as if needing to silence one's thoughts - reminds me of Pascal's remark 400 years ago: "All of humanity's problems stem from the inability to sit quietly in a room alone."
Swell.
In traditional classrooms, kids may contribute to a discussion only by raising their hands and waiting to be called on. In even more controlling environments, kids MUST contribute when the teacher calls on them. What's the alternative? Listen to the new episode of Kohn's Zone: tinyurl.com/37j5pesx
More higher ed discourse like this please

Turns out "chutzpah" is actually a Catholic concept
Creeping - and creepy - theocracy in Trump's regime: tinyurl.com/4497yyc9. Obnoxious to followers of disfavored religions (viz., all but Christianity) and particularly offensive to nonbelievers, but it ought to be opposed by anyone who's committed to pluralistic democracy.
This is a favorite strawman of the Religious Right, asserting that the exact phrase "separation of church and state" isn't in the Constitution.
They ignore that there are only three references to religion in the entire Constitution, all three of which work to separate church and state.
I mean, if Big Tech is going to commit to anthropomorphizing chatbots, they might as well go all the way: www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-ex...

Well, that's one way of looking at it...
More data to challenge (another kind of) controlling teaching: A new study finds that kids on rocker/wiggly chairs who were allowed to move freely were more creative than those told to sit still, with no negative effects on their performance at focused-attention or memory tasks: is.gd/TCdDHk
I really don't have an opinion on that. But I think people who try to define trans women out of existence by referring to them as "men" should not hold public office. Have a good day, sir.
It ... just vanished! It's a miracle!
This Truth Social post will in the not-too-distant future serve as an illustration of Narcissistic Personality Disorder in college textbooks for courses in Abnormal Psychology in all languages the world over.
Trump Shows New Resolve in Feud with Flora
I really hate how fucking frequently US news media uses "feud" as a descriptor for Trumps attacks on others, implying a mutuality that isnt actually there. The Pope isnt in a "feud" w Trump. He is speaking out against war & for peace, as all Popes do. Trump has decided to take that personally.
