Since 1965, the NEH has awarded over $6 billion to support museums, historic sites, universities, teachers, libraries, documentary filmmakers, public TV and radio stations, research institutions, scholars, and local humanities programming. Now its funding is under threat.

Thanks for this testimony. How many absolutely brilliant immigrants make our universities and health service flourish/ survive? My life would be so much poorer without my international friends. My father’s healthcare would be nonexistent without them.
Today we are launching the Genocide and Holocaust Studies Crisis Network: an alliance of scholars who have come together because our field & institutions are in crisis.

Instead of asking “how can we make workplaces/communities more accessible for disabled people” they just take the money that keeps ‘em barely afloat and frame them as a burden
Reduce quality of life. That’ll force ‘em into work!
Not a coincidence that euthanasia bills are back on the table either.
So excited for this book! Great review from @belovedofoizys.bsky.social
Hey #ClassicsBlueSky #AncientBlueSky @alexvandewalle.bsky.social @belovedofoizys.bsky.social @amchristensen.bsky.social Any of you using Greek-set video games in teaching, or know anybody who would be up to being contacted by a querying book editor about doing a chapter? @ancientplay.bsky.social ?
Academic and/or writer colleagues who think AI is inherently a good thing might want to enter their names into the search engine linked below... I counted 23 works of mine which have been stolen in the name of "training data".

The Arts and Humanities Alliance have written an open letter to Bridget Philippson, Secretary of State for Education, on the recently announced cuts across the sector. We are concerned that these measures disproportionately affect our disciplines and call for an urgent government review.
Please sign and share widely! After the devastating news about the planned cuts at Cardiff, the students have got the ball rolling to save their Ancient History programme. It is a very fine department: student numbers are strong, the staff team is fantastic. There is no rationale. chng.it/G5SMYxNbMQ

Well, this is exciting! On March 21st, I'll be at @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social, discussing what it meant to be a woman entering that most masculine of spaces - the Roman arena. Do come along if you're in the area, I'd love to see you!

A picture taken of a newspaper page showing Miri and George from Working Classicists holding up the book A Periodic Table of Greek Mythology. The title is “Classic case of a need for seats at the table”.
Thanks to @jamesmcenaney.bsky.social for the wonderful write-up about A Periodic Table of Greek Mythology in @heraldscotland.bsky.social this morning!
When the UEA v-c said that 10k jobs could be lost in UK universities this academic year, it might have sounded like hyperbole. These four unis, plus Newcastle last week, total over 1,050 planned job losses. UEA v-c might have been too conservative? www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-u...

The following Weds (5 Feb), we'll be hosting a panel discussion of the UK Class in Classics Report - one year on, with @cucdequality.bsky.social and the Network for Working-Class Classicists: ics.sas.ac.uk/events/uk-cl...
Just in case this got lost on Friday, sharing again this WonkHE piece on Phase 1 of the project that I'm running with @emizuc.bsky.social, @zenakamash.bsky.social and Lee Dibben on supporting students in the Classics dept living with neurodivergence and/or mental illness. It is good, important work.
this confirms something i have long suspected, which is that certain people are told that their professional and academic failures are because of “affirmative action” or “DEI” as a way to avoid difficult conversations about their mediocrity www.wsj.com/lifestyle/ca...
Proud to be one of the signatories of this letter. Axing the Latin excellence scheme: a classic mistake I Letters www.theguardian.com/education/20...
Glad to see the cuts to the Latin Excellence program getting some higher profile coverage. Could this have anything to do with the excellent letter from colleagues that appeared in the Guardian a few days ago?
Heading to #AIASCS? Don’t forget about our panel tomorrow!
You can also pre-submit questions for our panelists! Unfortunately we cannot livestream but our Q&A will be written down and posted afterward for those who could not attend in person.
