The thing with the luddites is that it didn't fade out, it was actively crushed by capitalist interests. These are people who stood against a future that they were absolutely correct to have fought against. There have been echoes of this ever since and the stakes keep getting more drastic.

It's still so crazy that in 2024 a huge chunk of bsky's userbase hit a peak of "we're ready to pay subscriptions for bigger features and support the platform, just tell us when it drops 🫡" and then within six months the Bsky team gleefully cut through all that good will with surgical precision

Um, actually the reason Bsky keeps breaking is because not enough of its users believe in their hearts that Ai is good and loves us.
