I spent seven years writing a book on this and she just… said it in three succinct paragraphs to politico.

"It’s true that there are physical feats that players in one league can accomplish that players in the other league simply cannot. For example, one league has players like DeWanna Bonner, who can carry and give birth to twins and return the next season to average 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds a game, while the other league has multiple players like LeBron James, who can carry the ball."

What separates journalism from stenography is independent reporting, verification and context. Trump calls in the National Guard for LA — note he did not do so for the insurrection. He says no one will spit on law enforcement, note he pardoned those who physically assaulted law enforcement Jan 6.
Parades are fun. But ground zero for performative appearances by elected officials. I have zero business participating in one cause I do the real work. And it's not fun.
Just wait until you see the poster this HS teacher in Evanston is in trouble for displaying

When you view arts and entertainment purely as what happens on a national stage, you ignore the potentially rich arts and entertainment environment locals are interested in. When you publish generic pap designed to run anywhere, what are you telling your readers about something that interests them?
"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."
Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.
I wrote about my decision in TIME.

I’m not a Catholic but high hopes for an American world leader who has some kind of moral compass
trina reynolds-tyler, Andrea Faye Hart and Eve L. Ewing, three "day-one" friends of Build Coffee, will take over the Woodlawn café and bookstore as "volunteer owners."
The trio says they want to be a model for running a "politically and community-oriented" shop. blockclubchicago.org/2025/05/05/e...
Pritzker: The reckoning is here. And now that this culture of timidity is on display, these same do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on the defense of Black people, trans kids, and immigrants, instead of on their own lack of guts and gumption.
A four panel screencap from ANDOR PANEL 1: Karis saying, "So much going wrong, so much to say, and all of it happening so quickly." PANEL 2: Cassian looking on as Karis continues, "The pace of repression outstrips our ability to understand it." PANEL 3: Karis, continuing, "And that is the real trick of the imperial thought machine." PANEL 4: Karis, finishing, "It's easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident."
i know it's cringe to post star wars as ~revolution~ or whatever, & that's not what this is, but I do think about this sequence from Andor a lot bc I know how paralyzing it is to feel overwhelmed. So, I'll continue working in the lanes where I feel the most needed/helpful.
republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover
The American Library Association is suing President Trump to stop the illegal dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and we’re joined by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
ALA alleges that plaintiffs have taken illegal actions to systematically destroy IMLS, including canceling millions of dollars in grants to states & libraries and placing career IMLS staff on administrative leave. The President’s executive order and actions put all library services at risk and take away funding from states to support their libraries & communities.
ALA is suing to reinstate IMLS grant funding and staff. We have requested that the court direct the President and Acting Director to reverse their unlawful actions and cease any further attempts to dissolve the agency. Congress created and funded IMLS through law. That funding MUST be used as intended by Congress.
Today we filed suit in federal court to halt and reverse the gutting of the only federal agency dedicated to library funding. We will not allow these illegal actions against Americans and our libraries to go unchallenged.
Learn more about the suit: ala.org/IMLS-suit (2/3)
SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.
They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.
Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.
Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.
TODAY is the showdown.

I said it once I'll say it again. #robertsrulesoforder are anti-democratic
To be incredibly clear: the library is for everyone. But it can't be EVERYTHING for everyone.
And that's the expectation being laid at the feet of libraries.
When the POTUS and his boss say they want meritocracy, know that they actually want mediocrity.
Emphasizing again that anyone who responds to "that's illegal" with some variant of "lol all law is meaningless you're a sucker for thinking that matters" is actively doing PR for Trump and helping him.
Nihilism about the law is the best way to make sure that the rule of law dies a quicker death.

Bad news from LCSH. This will percolate down to libraries as well, as we use these subject headings.
Use. Precise. Language.
"Any official, including the president, who chooses to blame everything from plane crashes to wildfires on non-White, non-male people should be asked whether they believe that desegregation is to blame. Whether they believe resegregation is the answer."
On the day after the election, I made a promise to the people of Illinois: when it comes to threats to our freedom, health, or security, if you come for my people, you come through me.
