This memorial marks a parachute insertion site used during World War II by agents of the British Special Operations Executive operating in southwestern France. It commemorates Percy Pink, who was parachuted into the countryside of Dordogne to assist and coordinate with the French Resistance. SOE agents were inserted by night aircraft into isolated rural areas such as this one, where resistance groups secured landing zones and helped recover parachuted personnel, radios, weapons, and supplies. Once on the ground, agents like Pink organized local maquis groups, coordinated sabotage against German transport and communications, and prepared resistance forces to assist Allied operations following the D-Day. The pink parachute symbol on the memorial represents the clandestine airborne insertion method used by SOE operatives. Such markers across rural France identify locations where agents landed or where resistance networks operated in support of the Allied campaign to liberate the country.
