Cover of the book No Thoughts Just Possums with a screaming possum named Sylvie on the cover.
This is the level of book I can handle today. No thoughts Just Possums.
Working on our bookstore's trivia questions for IBD now!
Evergreen reminder this 420: No one should be in prison for weed.
One guy showed up but they can't work alone. We've got 12-20 ft ceilings. Poor guy's been here since 745. The boss is nowhere to be found.
Just waiting for the HVAC folks who swore up and down last week that a 745 start was fine to be finished by open. They aren't here.
Yellow black and orange butterfly with wings spread sitting on a handle.
Butterfly out here freezing its bum off.
And then the guilt because *pushes glasses up nose* ACTUALLY there are so many amazing indie bookstores in Raleigh. Do love a shout out from an incredibly hilarious person.
Insta story from Amy Sedaris. "Best bookstore in Raleigh NC!! @quailridgebooks
I agree with Amy. But I'm partial to @quailridgebooks.bsky.social
Amy Sedaris would just pop in to Quail Ridge Books today. On my day off.
In honor of both Merle Haggard's 4/6 birthday, and also the tenth anniversary of his death, I picked a dozen 21st c. covers of Haggard songs for Good Country. (Think of this as a companion to the 20th c.-only list I did last week for No Fences Review, link to that one in this one)
It looks like cherries are the fruit of the spring and summer for a lot of coffee shops and I'm here for it!
Part of the bloodbath today 🫡
But my dogs wish to eat it! I tried to direct it to a neighbor's yard for its safety but it chose the exact place my dogs love to dig around in.
Black snake curled up under a green and black deflated inner tube.
Now we have a very pretty 5 ft snek under the deck that I'm sure the dogs won't care about anymore than the sole remaining bunny. I fear there is another predator for that bun now though.
Also copperheads are out of the black snakes are out.
Old wooden playset that's about to fall over
Today's vacation project. Destruction of the old playset.
Again, if you have a Substack, the best time to switch away was months ago -- but today's the second best time.
I found the nest. At least one baby screamed at me from inside the nest (or the mom was in there?) and I found another holding on for dear life just outside the nest.
Bunny screams are awful
Welp. The dogs found a bunny nest in the backyard. I myself haven't found the nest, but my dogs keep bringing me baby bunnies.
Comfy on the couch in the family room and there's a distinct smell of regular flavored bubble gum that wafts through and dammit there is nothing in this room that should have that smell!
The husband in Costa Rica falling in love with my brother's tree farm lifestyle. The daughter just left for Savannah bananas. The son is scaring himself in a vr horror game. I'm just over here pissed because I can't get the weed whacker to start and I know I'm capable (usually).
I'm loving the NHL playoff line up so far- Sabres? Mammoth? Canadiens? Flyers potentially? Need the West to continue to sort itself in a similar fashion.
I did! It was glorious!
I'm kind of feeling like crawling into bed right this moment for my first night of "vacation".
Outtakes from the cover of This Is How We Lose The TIme War.
No matter how you feel about AI, wholesale accepting the premise that its use and implementation is inevitable is a wild, foolish, and fully dipshit capitulation to the demands of technofascists who demonstrably care only about securing their bag and nothing the fuck else.
Well then. Seems they protest too much.
They are blocked for me
“Why are teens taking over Hyde Park?”
Bc you cut basketball nets and removed hoops in their hoods? Bc you’ve banned/restricted them from your cafes and bookstores and restaurants? Bc they’re competing for jobs alongside adults like it’s the fucking Hunger Games?
Not to mention mall restrictions, closing arcades, and they defunded every bit of teen programming possible at the libraries, closed all the community centers, and refuse to fund after-school and weekend events...
