After three decades of advocacy, and for the first time in my life, I was able to donate blood today. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. More here: ymlp.com/zcgz8Z

A medium shot of The Mountain Goats on stage at the Forum, Melbourne. Two rows of purple pinspots bear down on them from above, and a dark sea of people are in the audience below.

The left band member is a multi-instrumentalist - guitars, keys, saxophone, and voice. In the middle is John Darnielle with a guitar. On the right is a drummer with a full kit.

@themountaingoats.bsky.social hey thanks for coming to Melbourne. First gig with my partner since kids 8 years ago. Such a wonderful show, and yes, great to see improv in a rock context.

But the internet haters, Luke! What about them?

Yeah good point. I’ve seen people riding with them, and for voice only the tinny quality is fine; plus you shut up the haters about closing off your ears. But maybe the band is a dealbreaker

PocketSmith works good and has proper secure data access (consumer data right) instead of handing over a password or manual extraction

I’ve had this exact conversation with multiple hospitals for both myself and my kids.

The people managing the appointment waitlists are deliberately inaccessible to the patients on the list. This is across multiple health networks so I can only assume it’s some kind of cursed “best practice”.

A photo of the outside of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

They’d have to have completed their own investigation and issued an arrest warrant, which hasn’t happened. No photos from inside alas but their current warrant list is pretty short. I was surprised to see Kony still on there.

No big deal just a solar eclipse as seen from the moon streamed to us here on Earth by astronauts who are farther away from their home planet than any human has ever been

[The Apollo 11 plaque] reads: "We came in peace for all Mankind." As the United States was dropping 7 ½ megatons of conventional explosives on small nations in Southeast Asia, we congratulated ourselves on our humanity. We would harm no one on a lifeless rock. - Carl Sagan

Make sure to rotate your pronouns periodically, so that if your gender becomes compromised, attackers can only access it for a short period of time.

It is called LLMFlate and it is the hottest new text encoding protocol.

Think of it like gzip or brotly but with a twist.

It has taken the world by storm and is already supported by most email clients.

Here is how it works

Repping @dddmelbourne.bsky.social at Observability Day Europe today. Hopefully some folks got a better framework to think about how to build OTel sampling infrastructure.

will never not be funny that Google fixed a whole pile of distributed data store limitations imposed by the lack of apples-to-apples timestamps on different nodes by just going "lol, get better clocks, losers. lmfao"

Morrison one of the six referred to anti-corruption commission

Former prime minister, Scott Morrison, was one of the six people robodebt royal commissioner, Catherine Holmes, referred to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

The final report, released this morning, found two officials – Mark Withnell and Serena Wilson – had engaged in serious corrupt conduct.

The report found the other four, however, did not. The other four names referred to the Nacc included Morrison, Kathryn Campbell, Annette Musolino and Catherine Halbert.

Morrison’s failure to realise the bureaucratic advice was misleading, the report found, was due to both the social services and human services departments failing to advise him and other ministers that new laws were needed.

Campbell was one of two named by the Australia Public Service Commission in 2024 after it found 12 public servants, including Campbell and former department head Renée Leon, breached the code of conduct 97 times during their involvement in the robodebt program.

Given it’s intended for work comms I imagine the solution here is for workspace admin to restrict usage of those per channel.

If the admin is the one doing it, well then I’m fresh out of ideas.

Slack notif logic is already arcane, I can understand them not wanting to add another branch.
