Ethan Zuckerman. He actually apologized about a decade ago, calling it the "original sin" of thr internet.

Last reskeet: complete fucking tangent and irrelevant in this rising tide of doom, but the snippet of text in that screenshot is a fundamental detail that Brian Herbert and KJA either missed or ignored and their prequels are terrible not solely because of it but it is a big factor.

AI will never be able to roll its eyes like I just did.

Oh! And the gutters: it depends on the length of gutters needed really. The quote for mine was close to 20% of the roofing quote, yes, but your house may require more or less gutter length depending on the lines.

You want a reputable and competent company that does an affordable job, yes of course. But you're going to want the best guarantee terms you can get as well.

The company that did mine provides a free yearly inspection and guaranteed their work for 25 years. Anything AT ALL goes wrong, they fix. 2/2

Replaced mine last year. Minimal savings on homeowners, but some. The gutters didn't need to be touched at all to complete the job. They did give me a quote for replacing those as well, but I declined.

My biggest advice: shop the guarantee/warranty. 1/2

None close enough to me, but at least 3 different battlefields. And of course Stone Mountain.

"Not like the other beers" really taps the nose, doesn't it?

I mean, based on that I want to know more so don't knock your subject. And did the person saying it shouldn't be fantasy like fantasy or not like fantasy? Maybe it isn't meant for that reader.

It isn't about participation so much as getting where you're going. The only way out is through and so on.

Or it might be inability! And the determination is still yours, but one thing I really believe in writing an everything else is you encourage people whether they've got "it" or not, because they have to walk their path until they figure it out themselves.

The obstacle needn't be down to inability though. It may be something else.

Depends what you do with that baggage.

What genre are you trying to write?

...intriguing plot, or envision a character's arc, or devise an emotionally valid motivation I would accept you may be no storyteller.

So again, the determination is yours to make but you've not convinced me. (You don't have to, of course)

Would you be at all willing to send me something?

The determination is yours to make.

To me, it seems your issues are not rooted in talent but in skill. Not about having or not having "it." I think all of these things you've mentioned are things that are learned and practice, not inborn. If you told me you can't for the life of you conceive an ...

It was jarring. Did not seem like a choice. Maybe a "get through this sentence and we'll figure out a better verb on the next pass" that got forgotten.

But if I whiz through a first. Revising takes longer but not as much longer as the first would have taken.

All right. Do you think writing a first draft where you *don't* do that would be a helpful experiment?

I get further when I manage to do that, but I usually agonize so much over a first draft that it takes forever ... of course my revising takes far less time and effort.

Also. In an early book that was otherwise well written or at least well edited, one of my favorite science fiction writers has a character "viewing the viewscreen," so we are all capable of weak construction.

I worded poorly. You want the A. Do you know what the A looks like? I'm assuming yes, but that was what I was trying to get at: do you recognize an A and know what makes the work A-worthy?

1 month ago 0 0 0 0

I wouldn't say nobody talks about that stuff!

So you gave me a list of qualities, call them the items on your rubric. I am unclear on the answer to my question. Its clear you know the items on your rubric. Do you also know the quality score for each one that, to you, will be satisfactory?

The issue, if I'm understanding correctly, is translating your natural output into Good.

Also! In your first pass, are you trying really hard to write "good" or are you just drafting and the struggle starts on the first revision?

Okay. So one aspect is your definition of good. Do you have a clear and coherent picture of that? (I'm not after trying to debate good, it's up to you what's good to you, I just want to know if you *do* have a firm grasp of what that is)

I do not require your energy or any performance of chipper.. chipperiness? Chipperitude? Whatever.

I'd like to be helpful if I can. But to do so without being a nuisance.

Beyond that... "Social niceties" or whatever can get fucked.

Also, were this a scene i wrote, I would revise my character's dialogue to be "our speaking and writing voices both evolve from the same source, which is how we *think*" and go from there.
