Maybe the solution is to read more! What are your favourite OP ship fics? Obviously I have a zosanzo bias but I don't think there are any ships I hate, with an obvious caveat for anything that might require a TW...
I got really into BG3 (belatedly) and more recently The Pitt, but not in ways that really inspired me to write anything. But that meant I sort of slid off One Piece for a little, so I haven't touched any of my WIPs and have no new ones either... My wrists might be happy but my heart's not. 😢
I haven't written anything in months and I think it's slowly k*lling me...
Happy new year! My resolution is actually to start using social media more, specifically BlueSky. And remember to write...!
There's just so much to be mined in the intricacies of the age of chivalry for Sanji, who you're right, is just so so devoted and romantic and clad in layers and layers of artifice already, he's the perfect knight. And I love whenever people make Zoro a prince aha the contrast is too good!
THIS! I actually have an old abandoned WIP where Zoro is a gay prince, Sanji is his loyal knight and childhood friend, & they make a pact that when Zoro is inevitably married off, Sanji will be the queen's devoted lover instead - which for Sanji is also a way to pour out his love for Zoro by proxy
LRT this is how I felt about zosan... until Whole Cake Island haha. But yes I always feel a sense of self-betrayal when I end a story with marriage and kids... because sometimes it DOES work for the characters, but I've seen it shoehorned into so many ships I get kneejerk demand avoidance 😂
I think when it comes to shipping or fictional romance in general you have to free yourself from the shackles of thinking it should always end in a loving marriage. sometimes they have earth shattering sex and then don't talk about it or speak to each other for 10 years and that's AWESOME!!!
Comic cover titled “Silver & Iron” in all caps, “part one”. The title takes up the entire cover and is superimposed over a single figure standing in the centre of the page, a young but strong-looking man with light skin, visible chest and arm hair, and a beard which tapers into points at his chin and his cheeks. His hair is jaw-length and the top half is tied back, though some strands have come undone. He has upturned eyes and a moderately long nose with a slight bend in the bridge. A scar runs through his left eye leaving the pupil permanently dilated, making it appear darker than his right eye. He looks at the viewer with a sense of determination and grit, wiping blood off his chin; more blood stains his shirt, untucked and half-unbuttoned to expose part of his chest, and there are more traces of blood on his left hand which holds a crudely-hewn dagger.
SILVER & IRON: Part One
Ashley Lovell is a hopeful young werewolf who thinks he may have finally met a vampire willing to cooperate with him to eradicate a supernatural disease - only for both men to learn firsthand that your day can always get worse.
40+ pages, all in this thread 🧵🌙 #Silver&Iron
Basically "the character would not say that" but "the character would not fuck like that". Should've just led with this tbh.
I dunno... I just feel like people started writing advice on how to "tell" when a fic author had never had sex (or that kind of sex) before, but now we have a new problem where fics all reproduce the exact same advice on how to write these sex scenes, so it STILL feels virginal. If I'm making sense.
Real people have awkward clumsy sex. They use sub-optimal lubricants. They rush in without "proper" prep. They might not need "proper" prep. They frot and scissor. They miscommunicate their needs. They do all the things you've been told "real" (gay) people don't "actually" do.
I don't know if I'm conveying myself well here but there's nothing interesting (or particularly sexy) about a sex scene that grinds to a halt so that the writer can turn to the reader and say "don't worry, I've read the critiques, I'm not one of THOSE writers. HERE'S how you have gay sex:"
It just feels like the pendulum has swung too far. Yes we were all tired of reading yaoi in the 2000s where the top deflowered a virgin dry but "the pain was worth it". That doesn't mean every sex scene now has to follow the same rules and order of preparation to be Good, Realistic (Porn) Writing.
Not to get too many people upset with me, but if you write fanfiction and are also an adult with a healthy appetite for masturbation... you can just try butt stuff for yourself. That is an option you have. You can see what is actually necessary and what doesn't work.
Lots of people talk about how "therapy speak" has kind of pervaded fanfiction, but I would also like to speak about how many people now approach sex scenes with butt-stuff as if it's a rigid order of button inputs, and if you don't do them all right you can't pull off the combo.
Thank you! I really truly appreciate hearing that! 💛
I had always planned to return to The Onigiri Story after the conclusion of Wano, but if it hadn't received such sweet comments during the interim, I probably would have assumed nobody cared and made it a lower priority or even dropped it. A single thoughtful comment can revive a years-dry fic!!
also to add to this - leave comments on older and completed fics because trust me, you never know when you might reinvigorate a writer to return <33
This was my thinking! They had over 7,000 bookmarks, how is it useful to bookmark fics you thought were mid? 😭 I guess people have different reasons for using bookmarks, like an AO3 Goodreads, but doesn't it say right there when you bookmark a fic that people can see your tags 😅
Reading entire multi-chapter tens-of-thousands-of-words-long fanfics, leaving zero comments, then publicly bookmarking them as "okay" feels wild to me but maybe it's normal and I'm out of the loop!
Just encountered someone who seemingly tags all their bookmarks on a rating of "okay" to "very good" and I really wonder if they realise those are public and the author can see them 😭
the voices won. i drew it
Firm believer of the holy Trinity (Lesbian Nami, Bisexual Sanji, Gay Zoro)
Work has been kicking my bum lately tbh... I haven't written anything in so long and I miss it... also haven't even logged on to blue sky in a moment, did I miss anything?
