People keep asking how I'm doing and the answer always feels too small.
I see constant news on my phone, on TV, in the paper. I see streets I know so well; ones I walked and drove everyday for years. Shops and restaurants I've frequented are now opening their doors as makeshift medic stations, recovery bases, bathrooms and kitchens to people in need.
The Cities are not without fault or prejudice or tension, and they never have been. But they're full of neighbors who take that role seriously. People who hold the door for you when you're half a block away are now holding front lines.
Our neighborhoods have gone through chaos before, but this targeted ICE occupation feels different. I'm perpetually worried in a way I haven't been in a while. I'm trying to keep my head up, knowing we outnumber them. We always will.
