This is long and written in 2023 but I'm glad I spent time reading it. It touches on many of the profound societal shifts brought by the pandemic to a focal point, which continue to accelerate. We are in deep trouble. But it is not inevitable. johnsnowproject.org/insights/end...
📢 Happening today, Monday 13th April, at 6.00pm BST. Should be good. Still time to register...
1) 🔬🦠New article: we've made a comprehensive overview of the immune system in ME/CFS, analyzing major studies of the past 40 years.
A longread with separate chapters on:
- viral persistence
- cytokines
- neuroinflammation
- antibodies
- immune cells such as NK, B, and T cells
NEW: We often hear that Scotland’s more progressive income tax is “driving people out the country.”
New HMRC data shows the opposite. Far more taxpayers are moving to Scotland than leaving it.
Let’s look at the data 🧵
Assisted dying?
MSPs vote today on the assisted dying Bill. Many will wrestle with what to do. The right thing to do is vote against because no training can ensure coercion is detected & no 'safeguards' can't be got round now & removed later. This Bill is dangerous. I'm scared by where it will lead.
It beggars belief that 6 years into an airborne infection pandemic healthcare settings are among the places you're most likely to sick from airborne infection & every Winter hospitals are overwhelmed by them. When is Infection Prevention and Control policy and practice going to wake up?
Photo of a black sign on a pole stood in a grassy landscape with trees in the distance and blue sky. In white lettering the sign says Please do not climb on the War Horse. At the bottom left corner of the sign is the logo for Test Valley Borough Council.
I took this photo when I visited the War Horse statue, located in a park in a small town in the south of England, commemorating horses lost in the First World War. Today as the US seeks to unleash World War 3, it takes on a whole new meaning. Please everyone. Don't climb on the war horse bandwagon.
Of course they are. But we need to understand what that means they are doing in order for us to do ours.
Wow. Always good to know how we're being played.
‘Britain is not a nation at ease’. Agree. Britain is several nations not at ease. ‘In places from Warrington to Worcester’? So when you say Britain do you mean England? Grateful for clarification 🙏

Is there perhaps more to say on indoor air and environmental factors?
A very clear explanation of where we are [spoiler alert - it's not good news]. Worth your time to watch.
Update - will be livestreamed on tiktok @serinathecreator, not on Youtube, but will be posted on Youtube later.
Thanks for namechecking @inclusivenew.bsky.social's INN the Arts Group's coproduced good practice framework for safety from airborne infection in the arts (DM for a copy). I certainly can't take all the credit! Looking forward to Serina's play - remarkable for itself modelling good practice.
But does he agree with the US invading Greenland? Has anyone bothered to ask him?
🚨By-elections to be called automatically when MPs defect to another party - lets get this to the 100,000 signatures needed

nb that should say I brought a CO2 monitor with me to the Parliament, though I guess I did bring my own CO2 as well, given I breathe it out like everyone else does 😂
6/6 At 1500ppm there's already evidence of clear impairment in strategic thinking, problem solving, and information use. Something politicians may care to reflect on - in a well-ventilated room!
Hand holding a CO2 monitor showing 1802 with figures, white figure on black background which is how it shows figures that are unsafe.
5/6 Indoor air quality was good in the entrance foyer & outside the Committee room when we arrived but OMG 😱 by the end of the first part of the session in the Committee room it was 1802ppm! Very high - well above the 800ppm/ 1000ppm recommended max.
4/6 I took CO2 readings at the Parliament, having been assured "our mechanical ventilation is maintained in accordance with all relevant requirements and monitored by our Facilities Management team. Ongoing monitoring and maintenance ensure a good supply of fresh air is maintained in the building.".
3/6 True, there’s little time pre-election but they could’ve written to the Minister to ask if/how people with specialist expertise in airborne infection & lived experience of clinical vulnerability to airborne infection had been involved in developing the forthcoming infection prevention strategy 🤔
2/6 As expected, they did close it ('reluctantly’), said it was an important issue and urged me to resubmit it after the election [I will, or one very like it].
Me outside the Scottish Parliament - head and shoulders visible, wearing a respiratory mask, in a wheelchair, sat in front of a sign saying Scottish Parliament Public Entrance and a big arrow pointing to the left.
1/6 This morning, I attended the Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee to learn the fate of my petition calling for protection from airborne infections in health and social care settings. I went armed with a few protections/ visual aids myself – mask, portable HEPA and CO2. 🧵
Agree - deeply concerning.
Thank you! 🙏
