It should actually be politically scandalous to spend millions of dollars on a multi-year mobility study and then shelve those plans before the ink is even dry.
Especially when a major part of the mayor's campaign pitch was: put existing plans into action!

When we fail to implement our plans, we miss a massive opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of safe infrastructure, and we fail to build up the base of support we need to stand up for that infrastructure.

Current planned Connect Downtown mobility lanes to be built from "2027+" according to an NDOT presentation at BPAC on 4/20/26
The original Connect Downtown Action Plan for Phase 1 and 2 mobility lanes. Phase 1 included 11 new mobility lanes to be built between 2024-2026, plus upgrades to Demonbreun and Commerce. Phase 2 included 9 more new mobility lanes to be built from 2027-2029.
Here's our current plan for Phases 1 and 2, compared to what we were supposed to have built.
The entire point of Connect Downtown was to take urgent action to "aggressively advance a safe and connected active transportation network that supports people of all ages and abilities.”
So why are we building less than half of the planned mobility lanes in more than twice the time?
Diana Moreno (Zohran's successor) reminds everyone the 31st St fight is not about "whether you like bikes." There is an objectively correct answer the city must follow. This is the perfect point I want to hear politicians make EVERYWHERE. (@dianaforqueens.com)
Would love to see metro departments take this stance rather than react to individual CMs whims. Make a strong case for your work. Be vocal about the why. Stand by your standards.

Day 20 - BPAC bike parking #30DaysofBiking
Another death on a city-owned road, in an area with a lot of pedestrians and cyclists. Harding Place doesn't have sufficient sidewalks and zero cycling infrastructure. Within ~1mi there have been 2 ped deaths, 1 car death, and ~4 nonfatal ped crashes.

Two girls in the front of a cargo bike looking at a bench that reads, "Please don't blow up our library again"
A cargo bike parked next to a coffee truck in the Roy's parking lot, with a nice patio with seating
Day 19 of #30DaysofBiking - visited the main library and then stopped by Roy's for a few groceries on the way back
The #nashvillebicyclefestival cargo hauling challenge was a success. Cargo was hauled, fun was had, medals were bestowed. Let's do this again @bikefun.bsky.social.
How much did you fit in your Urban Arrow?
More awesome hauling!! Kids' bikes are so hard to carry and @dagopo.bsky.social rocked it with this setup 💪
And last but not least, our entry in the "most creative setup" category: the cargo bike train. @bikefun.bsky.social #nashvillebicyclefestival
An orange Bullitt loaded up with a cooler, a tent, two boxes, a delivery bag, and two balance bikes
A red Bullitt with a box filled with a cooler, a tent, a delivery bag, and a child's bike, with two boxes on the rear rack
In a Bullitt vs. Bullitt standoff, the flat bed won out over the box.
Look at that control!
Sure enough, @moxieonwheels.bsky.social easily loaded up the cooler, the tent, both boxes, Spencer's delivery bag, and TWO bikes. Absolutely crushed it.
Moxie showing Spencer the secrets to carrying everything
Moxie loading up the Bullitt
We all knew the competition was about to get a lot tougher once @moxieonwheels.bsky.social and Scout showed up. These two have been unstoppable on their new Bullitt.
"Nothing fell off!" Impressive hauling from @jspencersharpe.bsky.social
Sean and Spencer loading stuff into Spencer's bike
Spencer with a fully loaded bike and two small fans looking on
Our next contender was @jspencersharpe.bsky.social. Spencer was not afraid to push the boundaries, loading a cooler, both boxes, a really heavy tent, a kid's bike, and a big delivery bag onto his Rad bike. @bikefun.bsky.social #nashvillebicyclefestival
All bikes are cargo bikes!
Trey loading a cooler onto his Brompton

Trey was up next. He loaded a truly impressive amount of stuff into his Brompton, carrying a cooler and two big boxes. @stephanieo.bsky.social @bikefun.bsky.social #nashvillebicyclefestival
Strong work 👏👏
Moxie putting an extra box on Sean's bike
Sean carrying too much stuff on his bike
He even tried the extra chewy box but decided not to run over any small children

First up was @seanforfive.com. He managed to carry a full cooler, a big box, and a bag full of bike parts *without even a rack*! Bike messenger skills FTW. @bikefun.bsky.social #nashvillebicyclefestival
Four people carrying a lot of stuff on different types of bicycles
We had some strong contenders in the cargo bike challenge at the Nashville Bicycle Festival yesterday! @bikefun.bsky.social #nashvillebicyclefestival

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 4th Nashville Bicycle Festival & made a QUICK pivot when we had to move inside! Fortunately we were able to be outside for games & bike rodeo.
