Astronaut Chris Hadfield performs a spacewalk outside a spacecraft, wearing a white spacesuit with a Canadian flag on the arm. He is tethered to the structure, with equipment and tools attached to the suit. The curved edge of Earth is visible below with clouds and blue atmosphere, while the background is the blackness of space.
On this day in 2001, Chris Hadfield became the first Canadian to perform a spacewalk. Hadfield was Mission Specialist 1 on STS-100 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. During the mission, Hadfield performed two spacewalks, and spent 14 hours, 50 minutes outside.
