IMO this has always been a major fault with Nosferatu's other versions. They tend to defer to Victorian storytelling customs when the plot's elements call for something different.

In short, I found the plot changes here to be remarkably effective. What say you?

Because, at least to me, it has always been her story. I felt this reading Dracula back in the day too with her counterpart character Mina. She overwhelmingly has the most interesting predicament and the most to sacrifice. A slight less focus on the boys brought actual life into the plot.

I will say I've only seen The Northman to compare it to Eggers' other works. But like you I've seen sooooo many (bad) adaptations of Nosferatu and I've been waiting for ages to get something with plot motion. So many of them imo stall out after the first act.

Making it Ellen's story was KEY though.

The casual moviegoer is a thing of the past. That's a big problem for Hollywood Gone are the days where prospective moviegoers would roll up to the theaters and gawk at the board for their next watch. Theaters are trying to make up that business in other ways.

This has been Riley's 2024 addition to the "befriending the lyrical loneliness" list on Letterboxd if the list were just me expressing my feelings.

This is not to say I'm not directly responsible for some of this fizzling. I've not been as focused as I should be and let anxiety control everything I do. Some really terrible driving anxiety has kept me inside more than is healthy.
