Reading this story about a nut like Constantino again makes me wonder why the population in the North Country-despite the lack of jobs and affordable housing, frigid weather 9 months out of the year, lack of medical care, and the high prevalence of Confederate flags-keeps declining. It's a mystery.

This is also true about brick-and-mortar book stores. Ordering books online is great, and you can choose from the world's supply of books if you know what to look for, but being in an actual bookstore gives you the opportunity to find great books you would likely not have heard of otherwise.

My R1 pushes online instruction constantly, not because it's as good as in-person instruction (it isn't, and that was true before AI and even more true now), but because it makes money. The fact that online instruction is less effective than in-person instruction is irrelevant to the bean counters.

This is LOL funny because one cannot watch CNN for more than five minutes, at any point of the day or night, and not hear the phrase "breaking news" uttered multiple times.

I really wish recipients of awards would start using works like "gratitude" about receiving them and stop using words like "humbled" which, accurate or not, sounds like false modesty and is just plain weird. We are "humbled" by our failures, not our successes. This comes off like a humble-brag.

It's a useful reminder of how politically divided Minnesota is as a state. Emmer is an elected official *in Minnesota* and has been repeatedly disparaging of Omar and the protestors in Minneapolis. Our polarization is not between "blue" states and "red" states-it's between rural and urban areas.

Anyone who still believes America isn't a racist country should be reminded of the fact that 77 million people voted for someone who has made public racists statements dozens of times.

Show me a journalist who attends the WH correspondents dinner, and I will show you a journalist with zero self-respect. No exceptions.

Kernen is such a Trump shill. The guy who says that Trump has respect and admiration for the Iranian people ignores the fact that Trump said he would destroy their entire civilization.

I absolutely despise these people. If parent's don't vaccinate their kids, it doesn't just harm *their* kids - it increases the likelihood that other people (e.g., teachers; other kids) will get sick as well. These people are reprehensible idiots.

Would love to see you and *all* Democratic senators start calling out FOX "news" for this nonsense, and remind people that FOX paid 787 million dollars to settle a case they were about to lose by spreading election lies. And every time a Democrats goes on FOX, say it publicly!

The Teamsters and the unions for cops don't seem to understand this, however. They are clear Trump supporters.

"Unvarnished racism" is what got him elected in Texas. We underestimate how many of these racist politicians there in fact are, because we underestimate the number of white racists in American, pretending they are few in number when they actually number in the millions.

If @theatlantic.com "settles" this case, like other media has with Trump, it will only embolden Trump and his allies further.

Those small towns will get smaller and smaller in an ongoing death spiral. The only ones who stay are pretty much the only ones who can't afford to leave.

Only in rural America is it better to have a GED than a degree from Harvard. But I absolutely agree that lots of people there being racist and homophobic (it's genuinely creepy seeing the number of Confederate flags in the Adirondacks). And yes there are good ones too - just not enough of them.

If the people in Louisiana could vote for more sensible gun laws tomorrow, after the brutal murders of 8 children, it would lose in a landslide. They care more about the 2nd amendment. We are a nation of idiots.

She would never win in election if she ran in Albany - suburban and urban voters mostly hate her. She won in rural areas and became *more* popular with that group the more she backed Trump. NY-21 got what they voted for, and no one else deserves to pay the price for that mistake.

Canadians should know that most Adirondack counties voted for Trump and Stefanik, so they should feel great about boycotting Adirondack businesses.

Except that those places *voted* for Stefanik, and it's really hard to sympathize with people who vote against their own interests. Cry me a river for those retailers.

I suspect the only way Republican politicians would vote for greater gun control is if their own children were shot and killed. Wait...no, I don't think they'd vote for it then, either, since it might "infringe" on their children's killers' 2nd amendments rights.

This was *always* the case. Everyone paying attention knew that Trump was a not a "Christian" in any sense of the word when he was elected in 2016, let alone when he was re-elected in 2024. The Catholics who voted for him made a deal with the devil (so to speak) in 2016 and again in 2024.

Would love the see the 33% or so of people who "strongly" or "somewhat" approve of the war to sign up for the military immediately, or at least have their sons and daughters enlist. Do it.

How can FOX even do this, given they paid 477 millions dollars for promoting these lies?

Which is why the @theatlantic.com should call his bluff. They should say they welcome the lawsuit and the opportunity to engage in Discovery. They should encourage Patel to do it!

I strongly suspect that the shift you're talking about occurred because faculty in history department could no longer pretend that their graduates (no matter how prestigious the institution) would ever get academic jobs, given that their chances for getting a tenure-track position were near zero.

2 days ago 1 0 0 0

Hey @theatlantic.com - you should welcome this. Tell Patel, publicly, to bring it on and that you will be happy to put him on the stand, under oath and in court. Say it today and show everyone you stand by everything you've said about Patel.

Gee, I wonder if *money* has anything to do with Rogan coming back to Trump?

3 days ago 2 0 0 0

This is only true because Rogan is the most popular podcaster and because so many conservatives (overwhelmingly men) listen to him. Of course he is "trusted" by conservatives-they also (largely) trust Trump! In such a fractured media environment, this "who do I trust the most" is not that relevant.
