Reading this story about a nut like Constantino again makes me wonder why the population in the North Country-despite the lack of jobs and affordable housing, frigid weather 9 months out of the year, lack of medical care, and the high prevalence of Confederate flags-keeps declining. It's a mystery.
This is also true about brick-and-mortar book stores. Ordering books online is great, and you can choose from the world's supply of books if you know what to look for, but being in an actual bookstore gives you the opportunity to find great books you would likely not have heard of otherwise.
My R1 pushes online instruction constantly, not because it's as good as in-person instruction (it isn't, and that was true before AI and even more true now), but because it makes money. The fact that online instruction is less effective than in-person instruction is irrelevant to the bean counters.

I really wish recipients of awards would start using works like "gratitude" about receiving them and stop using words like "humbled" which, accurate or not, sounds like false modesty and is just plain weird. We are "humbled" by our failures, not our successes. This comes off like a humble-brag.
It's a useful reminder of how politically divided Minnesota is as a state. Emmer is an elected official *in Minnesota* and has been repeatedly disparaging of Omar and the protestors in Minneapolis. Our polarization is not between "blue" states and "red" states-it's between rural and urban areas.

If the people in Louisiana could vote for more sensible gun laws tomorrow, after the brutal murders of 8 children, it would lose in a landslide. They care more about the 2nd amendment. We are a nation of idiots.
She would never win in election if she ran in Albany - suburban and urban voters mostly hate her. She won in rural areas and became *more* popular with that group the more she backed Trump. NY-21 got what they voted for, and no one else deserves to pay the price for that mistake.
Canadians should know that most Adirondack counties voted for Trump and Stefanik, so they should feel great about boycotting Adirondack businesses.

This was *always* the case. Everyone paying attention knew that Trump was a not a "Christian" in any sense of the word when he was elected in 2016, let alone when he was re-elected in 2024. The Catholics who voted for him made a deal with the devil (so to speak) in 2016 and again in 2024.
Would love the see the 33% or so of people who "strongly" or "somewhat" approve of the war to sign up for the military immediately, or at least have their sons and daughters enlist. Do it.

I strongly suspect that the shift you're talking about occurred because faculty in history department could no longer pretend that their graduates (no matter how prestigious the institution) would ever get academic jobs, given that their chances for getting a tenure-track position were near zero.

This is only true because Rogan is the most popular podcaster and because so many conservatives (overwhelmingly men) listen to him. Of course he is "trusted" by conservatives-they also (largely) trust Trump! In such a fractured media environment, this "who do I trust the most" is not that relevant.
