From the dismantling of federal tech teams and the rise of "DOGE" to the ethical tension of the AI boom, our community is grappling with what it means to serve the public in an era of disruption.
What keeps a public interest technologist up at night? 🌙
We asked the TPG community to reflect on a turbulent 2025. The answers were raw, challenging, and deeply insightful. 🧵

Our hope is that some of the 1K people said to be hired will fall into this category and that our community can be here to guide and support them.
There are folks in our community that are currently or who want to work in the federal government. Some are doing it out of necessity. And others because they believe there still can be meaningful work at the federal level.
And that’s not accounting for the policy initiatives that people might be put on.
While we hope for good outcomes we recognize that there is a likely outcome that it will create many problematic elements of known drop-in digital efforts, which could have been averted had they kept the very talented people that they fired.
Nothing can make up for what has happened this year nor change daily terrible actions from the administration.
We’re also appalled by and don't agree with the actions of the federal government over the past year, both in terms of their horrendous treatment of the civic tech community and violence of nationwide policies.

The U.S. launched Tech Force (techforce.gov) to recruit ~1K technologists for public service.
This comes after decimation to incredible tech, design, and innovation teams across government. But, for the public's sake, we hope this becomes a positive force using tech for good.
And, don’t miss out on an intimate AMA with Kate this Dec. 12, 3:30 p.m. ET
