We’ve been working on this for a long time. Love to see so many people playing games by Ukrainian teams. If you’re attending GDC, come say hi.

What I wouldn’t have given for a timely critique of imperialist culture as an instrument of aggression but name-dropping Dostoevsky in a video game review is so much fun

Love the fact that the russian-born writer commissioned for the Pathologic piece barely got two sentences in before casually appropriating Gogol (who is of Ukrainian origin) as a wholly russian writer

Surreal, but not surprising, to see @eurogamer.bsky.social celebrating russian culture while Dostoevsky-loving russians destroy Ukraine’s power grid and heating in the middle of harshest winter in years

116 Ukrainian drones achieved much more than 132 days of Trump’s presidency

The downplay doesn’t come from animosity toward Ukraine. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. NYT strives to report the truth but they internalized that russia is too powerful. Hence, what doesn’t fit is highly suspicious and must be held to a much higher journalistic rigour.

Another downplay comes immediately afterwards. Sure, Ukraine has hit russia’s strategic bombers. Have you heard that russia killed some Ukrainians today, too?

You’d only know the front-page photo shows 🇺🇦 troops in Kherson (some 2,000km+ from the bases hit) and was taken in 2024 if you bothered to open the article.

There’s no shortage of explosive footage today. But using it would go against the narrative arc. And so, the downplay.

The downplay in effect at @nytimes.com

News about Ukrainian drone attack make the front page (too big not to) but the wording is vague and cautious: ‘targets’, ‘several aircraft’, ‘caught fire’.

Randomly illustrated with a photo of troops training in Kherson (from last year!).

If this is what Ukraine pulls off on day 1,194 of war, after months of Trump’s pressure, constant appeasement of russia, aid chokeholds, internal issues, and divided support from Europe, imagine what we’d do if the West truly stood behind us.

Now watch the media downplay Ukraine destroying strategic russian aviation because it doesn’t fit the ‘Ukraine is weak/losing/corrupt’ story arc.

Looks like Ukraine’s holding a few cards after all, huh.
