We are not playing politics with children’s health. Maryland is standing up for science.

Too often, Black women are overlooked by our health care system. As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, I remain committed to pushing for real change through legislation like the U-FIGHT Act and the Women’s Heart Health Expansion Act.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
TrumpRx is a scam that could actually cause you to pay MORE for your prescription drugs.
NOTUS logo Trump White House Democrats Want Answers on Russell Vought’s Plan to Cut CFPB’s Workforce in Half The proposed reduction in force is the Trump administration’s latest attempt to shrink the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Slashing the CFPB workforce in half will weaken its ability to protect consumers — including getting money back to Americans who have been cheated by big banks and giant corporations.
I led Banking Democrats in calling on Russell Vought to explain the reasoning behind these cuts.
My statement on tonight's votes:
Grateful to the Maryland African Chamber of Commerce and Vincent Iweanoge for the invitation to celebrate African diaspora women who power our communities. When we rise together, we all rise.
“46 days. Over $46 billion. “The price of war is always paid on the backs of working-class Americans. This unauthorized war of choice has cost the lives of brave men and women serving in our armed forces, and it’s cost our families here at home who can barely afford their gas, their groceries, or their electricity. “Americans cannot afford this war. Americans do not want this war. “End the war. Lower costs.”
I voted yes AGAIN to end this unauthorized war of choice.
It’s Tax Day. Don’t forget to file, and also don’t forget that this Administration got rid of the free IRS Direct File program, gave tax breaks to billionaires, reduced the staff of the IRS by one-fourth, and cut the budget for investigating sophisticated tax schemes.
It’s time to end this war.
This Administration is spending nearly $2 billion a day on an unauthorized war of choice. Inflation is climbing, gas prices are surging, and families are struggling to keep up.
It is time to end this war and finally start to lower costs for hardworking Americans.
Peter Magyar's victory in Hungary is a critical reminder that we can't give up the fight for democracy.
The people of Hungary made their voices heard and democracy won.
As Coretta Scott King said: 'Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation.'
Statement from Senator Alsobrooks on the passing of her beloved father, James Alsobrooks. “With the benefit of hindsight, every child’s dream should be to have the unwavering and unconditional love and support of their parents. Mine came true for me in my father, James McArthur Alsobrooks. And if every parent’s dream is for their children to have it better than they did, then my father did everything he could to see his come true.” “He sacrificed endlessly for my sister and me, and spared no resource – time or otherwise – to provide us opportunities he never had. Always selfless. Always teaching life lessons in his unique way. Always uplifting, telling us we could do anything in this life.” “My father thought so highly of us, and saw all the possibilities we could achieve. And I thought the world of him in return. But I didn’t just look up to him. I watched him. I saw how he lived his life. And his generosity extended beyond his family. He cared deeply about people, and passed that passion on to us.”
“He taught me to look past outward appearances and see the humanity in everyone. He showed me to try to understand how others think and how they see the world. And he modeled how lending a moment of support could carry someone for a lifetime.” “I observed him dedicate himself to church ministry and outreach, and spend countless hours mentoring young men and boys. I witnessed him encourage people to become active and engaged in the community. And I learned why he sacrificed and gave so much. He understood where the true value was – in people. He was my first example, and he was the smartest man I’ve ever known.” “I’m heartbroken that we’ve lost a devoted husband, loving grandfather, and the best father I could ever dream of having. But I’m forever grateful that he passed on the kind of wisdom that endures, and the memories that will never fade.”
We are saddened to share the passing of Senator Alsobrooks’ beloved father, James Alsobrooks.
We ask for privacy for the Senator and her family at this time.
Screenshot of a Truth from President Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!
This is an unauthorized war of choice. And now our President is threatening that a "whole civilization will die tonight" – millions of innocent civilians.
Americans don’t want this.
They just want to pay their bills, afford their gas, and put food on the table.
Proud to deliver real results for Greenbelt. Team Maryland is bringing home investments that expand opportunities for our kids, from after-school programs to a new roof at the Youth Center.
When we invest in our young people, we are investing in our future.
Happy Easter to all celebrating in Maryland and beyond.
Today is a reminder that hope is renewed, light and love prevail, and new beginnings are always possible.
Good Friday reminds us that love endures, even through sacrifice and sorrow.
Through suffering, we witness the depth of that love and the enduring presence of hope.
May you find peace and comfort on this Good Friday.
Met with Maryland members of the Black Women’s Roundtable.
Hearing their struggle with rising tuition and a tough job market, worsened by this administration, resonated with me, especially as the mother of a college student. We must do better for our children and students.
One year after President Trump’s “Liberation Day,” it is clear: Trump’s tariff policies failed.
Families in Maryland are paying on average $1,744 more because of these tariffs. We are living through an affordability crisis thanks to this Administration’s ineptitude.
As the Artemis crew takes on this historic mission, Baltimore native Reid Wiseman is leading the way as Commander.
A Navy captain, test pilot, former Chief Astronaut, and ISS veteran, Reid is making Maryland proud on one of the most important missions of our time.
Gas prices have spiked and Americans are being killed in this President's unauthorized war of choice. As always, the cost of war falls most heavily on working families.
We must reclaim Congress’ authority and protect the American people.
Wishing a Happy Passover to all those celebrating in Maryland and beyond. May this season of reflection bring peace, renewal, and joy to you and your loved ones.
It was a privilege to join the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s fly-in reception and welcome HBCU leaders to DC. Thank you, Dr. Harry Williams, for the invitation.
I’m proud that Maryland is home to four HBCUs, and I will continue the fight to make education accessible.
This Women's History Month, I’m laser focused on closing gaps in women’s health care. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, that’s why I’m proud to lead the bipartisan Women’s Heart Health Expansion Act to expand screening, detection, and care.
Politico Pro Headline "5 Questions for Sen. Angela Alsobrooks" The junior senator from Maryland, a Democrat, says Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done exactly what she feared he'd do." over an image of Senator Alsobrooks looking at RFK Jr. during a Senate hearing.
Image of RFK Jr. with Make America Healthy Again hat. Quote from Senator Alsobrooks" "The way that [Kennedy]’s approached it has been a total betrayal of the people who supported him, and I think that they will come to see that. I think many of the people involved in the MAHA movement are now beginning to understand that these are decisions that have gone beyond what he promised."
Quote from Senator Alsobrooks: "My own agenda has been to try to pass legislation in a bipartisan way that would help us to actually fund the efforts that would help us to get more research and screening and detection, for example, for fibroids, a condition that affects close to 70 percent of all American women by 50; heart disease, the leading killer of women in our country." with photo of group of women holding a poster that says "U-FIGHT ACT"
Quote from Senator Alsobrooks: "I think we now have enough experience with both Secretary Kennedy and with this administration, to know to distrust the nominees that have been put forward. We know that he's already replaced or fired the people with true science backgrounds and experience in favor of political hacks, the people who will line up with their ideology." Background is black and white photo of Casey Means.
Under RFK Jr.’s disastrous leadership, we’re seeing science sidelined, experts pushed out, and politics take center stage.
This is NOT how you protect public health and it’s everyday Americans who pay the price.

Always a powerful conversation with my Sorors of DST— grateful to be joined by @vanhollen.senate.gov to talk about the work we're doing in the Senate including economic opportunity, health equity, and so much more.
They’ll tell you there’s no money for SNAP. No money for Medicaid.
But somehow... there’s billions for this war of choice.
Now gas is up, groceries are rising, and Americans are left footing the bill.
I am so proud to represent incredible student-athletes across Maryland (although I will always be a loyal Duke Blue Devils fan!)
But let's be honest: there is so much money in college sports these days. We need to protect our student-athletes, their health and safety, first.
For weeks I have worked alongside my fellow Democrats to fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and more.
I was clear we could do that without sending another penny to ICE.
Finally in the dead of night, Republicans agreed.
I met with students from Senator Ben Cardin's Fellowship Program with the National Conference of Synagogue Youth on the Senate steps.
We talked about what it’s like serving in the Senate, my priorities for Maryland, and the importance of standing against antisemitism.
